Former Ohio State offensive lineman Bob Maggs has died at the age of 61.
A two-time first-team All-Big Ten selection as the Buckeyes’ starting center in 1985 and 1986, Maggs died unexpectedly last Thursday, according to his obituary.
Maggs is the father of Mason Maggs, a current walk-on quarterback for the Buckeyes.
A Parade All-American from Youngstown’s Cardinal Mooney High School, Maggs helped lead the Buckeyes to a 9-3 season in 1985 and a 10-3 season in 1986.

After his football career, Maggs worked in sales for Mueller Roofing Distributors. Per his obituary, Maggs was known by his loved ones as the “Gentle Giant” – for his kind heart, his warm, happy smile, and his fierce love for his family.
Maggs’ death is one of two tragic losses for the Ohio State football program over the past week as another great Buckeye center, Nick Mangold, died Saturday at 41 years old due to complications from kidney disease.

It's not unique that Ohio State and Purdue are facing each other for the 61st time in their schools' history, but the Buckeyes and Boilermakers will have a unique kickoff time this year.
Ohio State and Purdue will kick off at 1 p.m. when they play at Ross-Ade Stadium on Nov. 8, with Big Ten Network set to broadcast the matchup. It's the Buckeyes' second time playing on BTN this season after they trounced Grambling State 70-0 in Week 2 on the network.
This will be the first time in more than 13 years that Ohio State played a game at 1 p.m., falling outside the typical college football time slots of noon, 3:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. The last time the Buckeyes played at 1 p.m. was in the 2012 Gator Bowl on Jan. 2, 2012, which closed a 6-7 season with a 24-17 loss to Florida.
The Buckeyes are riding a three-game winning streak against the Boilermakers, most recently beating them 45-0 in Columbus last season. Ohio State is 42-15-2 all-time against Purdue, excluding a vacated win from the 2010 season.
It's the first game on Big Ten Network this year to kick off at 1 p.m. Currently undefeated No. 1 Ohio State should enter as heavy favorites against a Purdue squad that sits at 2-6 on the season and is yet to pick up a win in Big Ten play.
