2025 scUM Shenanigans, Arguments, etc.

I haven't watched The Game sober in probably 20 years. Considering I just turned 36... I suppose I should feel like a scum bag.
It's the one day a year I just cut loose. Take off the coaching/analyst cap, let the emotion drive me and feel that spiritual connection to not only Buckeye football; but all of those who shared that mutual connection, both still with us, and those dearly departed. (RIP Grandma, she was the football matriarch of the family)

When the news broke, I had a lazy, errand filled weekend a couple months later. Ended up putting on The Game 2022, the first time I had watched any footage of it since the loss. I don't discount some of the coaching blunders as early as the 2nd drive from Day. A grab bag of plays on that 2nd drive, not being setup by previous calls or setting up future calls. But even with that, the Bucks were still driving and it was pretty clear when they hit the 30 yard line that scUM started panicking about the possibility of being down 14-3 early.

Going back to chart some plays, the blown up Z-return escort was the first poker 'tell' of the game. Everything from the backside run fit integrity not being maintained, the single high safety not keying run despite zero high hat, scUM seemingly allowing a run-side light box count and the weakside LB barely scraping off his tackle stack and letting 2nd level guards just run by him....

Very next play, scUM dials up a zero cover and sends the house. That same playside DB who wasn't triggering to a play-side run read was crashing hard pre-snap. A hard crash against a team that had hit that bubble RPO on them a couple times in the first series for gains. Leaving the scum CB's 1 on 1. After scUM went 3 and out the next drive, it only got worse from there. I believe I charted the entire first half, it's on my desktop somewhere? But I mean it was so bad at one point I remember watching corners with zero safety help squat on routes that you're all but handing a walk-in touchdown too if you're even remotely wrong on guessing. So much your position coach and DC would have pulled you the moment the whistle blew just to chew your ass out.

I can promise you this, had I been on the straight and narrow when it was live, I would have rushed to BP to call bullshit on *something*. What? I'm not sure. But it looked funky as hell the moment the scum suckers started getting down early and needed to keep themselves from a multi score hole.

Does this absolve Day & Co for their blunders? No. I remain cautiously guarded about our coaching staff. And they did themselves absolutely no favors in 2022, the biggest getting away from the running game. Something that cost CJ his Heisman and this team a better playoff seeding. But I saw a ton of white light this post-season - a ton of soul searching. But the key in this game is consistency. Otherwise you're Larry Coker. I'm hoping we see more consistency with Coach Day, especially the last Saturday of November.

Larry Coker flamed out by year six. Ryan Day won a Natty in year six. i'm just saying.

Sort of a unique game where our weaknesses matchup somewhat. They lost everyone on their OL and we lost a lot on the DL. We return maybe the best OL in the country and they have a good DL.

I think where the game will turn is our skill compared to theirs. Our secondary is better in my opinion and their secondary has to deal with the best skill position talent in the country.

That said, need to run the ball haha
Best OL in the country would be amazing but not sure I’m there yet. Hope you’re right as that would be huge for breaking in a new QB and RB corps. Certainly have the talent at the skill position to make a run if the OL is elite watch out!

Yeah we roamed around some of those areas. I recall you had to be careful to make sure you didn’t trespass on Native lands.

I also learned what trash bird’s Eagles were. They were definitely dumpster divers. They would try to shit on you to.

Experienced my first earthquake on the Island. Met Sig and watched them filming the boats going in and out for Deadliest Catch. The canneries stunk to high hell.
I actually ran the landfill on one of those Islands. Back in Anchorage i also worked landfills and used to get a laugh out of watching bears and eagles fighting over garbage. Those were good times. Although I'm glad that I made it back to civilization I wouldn't trade those 4 years for anything.

SEC (It just means more.. even its losses are wins)

Who gives a shit if the SEC has a rule that seems to parrot the NFL rule.. who gives a shit if they use it for nefarious purposes to enhance the likes of Bama over the cocks... who cares if they use it as an excuse ... if they even do...

Heres what I think. The SEC went short term with the like minded short term thinkers at ESPN. Say what you want about Delaney but ... solid academic institutions, unified for more than athletic purpose alone, along with its vast alumni and consequently, money... leveraged into even more money through the B1G network and expansion plan. (Hint, it wasn't about Maryland or Rutgers. It was about NYC and DC)

Moreover, the SEC s weekness has been its small footprint. Well... it ain't getting much bigger. The B1G goes from NYC to Seattle to Los Angeles. .. Chicago... Minneapolis... Detroit... Pittsburgh.. Philly... Baltimore....

SEC has Dallas and Atlanta.. NoLa.. what else, market wise?
Nashville and Norman and Starkville to name one.

Yep amazing views out the plane windows. Always had to make sure you had a set of clothes in your backpack, because you were never sure your luggage was making the flight due to weight constraints
When I was out there it was a 50/50 chance that your plane back into town would be able to land because of the fog. Spent many a night at Adak waiting for another chance to get back out there

One of my buddies from those days, forgot his name but he was a trip. These are old WW2 bunkers

A plane crash

I remember my first trip back to Anchorage from Shemya. We stopped at Dutch harbor, we approached from the west and had to circle the bay in order to land and that fucking plane was shaking so badly if I hadn't been buckled in I surely would have slammed my head on the ceiling. It was a rough landing but we made it uneventfully to the ground. I swear those flights over the Alaskan Peninsula were some of the most breath taking I've ever flown. Miles and miles of uninhabitable wilderness out the window.

Headlines You Don't See Every Day (outside of Florida)

Internet sends love to apparent wife of Astronomer CEO Andy Byron after he’s caught canoodling with employee at Coldplay concert

It all happened at the Coldplay concert at Gillette Stadium in Boston. It was all music and fun… until Chris Martin, lead singer of the iconic band, decided to activate the Kiss Cam. His intention was to hype up the crowd, but it had quite the opposite effect for two people.

Andy Byron, CEO of Astronomer, is married to Megan Kerrigan Byron. They have two children together. The video shows him with the company's CPO, Kristin Cabot, who is also reportedly married.

To me the biggest concern for OSU in this game is whether our defensive front seven can hold up physically in the interior and get the calls and run fits right to limit yardage and big plays from gash running plays, especially designed and improvised QB runs. Even if pressure on Manning isn't great, I'm much more concerned about that than about him ripping the defense up from the pocket. I think the Buckeyes' offense will put up at least 24 and agree with Jax that this feels like a big Max Klare game.

Ah yes, that’s a helluva flight from Anchorage to Dutch. Had half the ceiling fall in one time and then had to land at King(?) Is on the AF strip to refuel because the headwinds were so strong.

The takeoff out of Dutch straight up is wild and seeing the plane wreckage on that Mountain as your going up is a bit unnerving.

Good times for young men….

MLB General Discussion (Official Thread)

the reaction time you have to decide then get your bat in the right place is insane. honestly, i look at these high school kids touching high 80s low 90s "easily" and i'm impressed they get hit - my son faced a kid throwing 87-89 pretty consistently this year and managed to get 2 hits - i would fail so badly at it
Yep. That's if I didn't pull a John Kruk and fold as it was coming towards the plate! LOL

Cincinnati Reds (2025 is our year! Haha thats actually funny)

I don't see how anyone could put Steel Hall above Tyson Lewis.

Lewis has dominated a professional league already. Hall has another year of HS iirc.

Scouts and advanced metrics both point to Lewis being "different" (exit velo's etc)

Hall has shown a weakness against secondary pitches in HS.
And not a single corner outfielder amongst them.
