I agree, but Delaney probably wants to keep OSU as a possibility for the inaugural Big Ten Title Game. I would personally rather have the post-season ban for this year. I just think next year's team has a chance to run the table with a favorable schedule.

He's really going to want that if Penn State is poised to go if we don't...

New Timeline:

There will be another Committee on Infractions hearing that will take place in either December or January. Expect a final ruling in March 2012.

So for LOI day in February we still won't know the final verdict, and neither will recruits. This doesn't seem like an accident because there is no logical reason for it to take another four months to reach a decision.

Failure to Monitor is not surprising after the DiGeronimo incident. Actually, I would have been a bit surprised if OSU didn't get a FTM after that.

I'm hoping the scholarship reduction on top of everything else is sacrifice enough to NCAA.
I'm expecting a post-season ban coming down the pipe.
I wouldn't be surprised to see a multiple year post-season ban.

The dispatch article notes that the FtM is in play because of the most recent issues with Posey et al, not the memorabilia issues.

Honestly, as soon as Howard, Hall and co were busted, I got worried. Then when Posey and Boom were implicated AGAIN, I figured it would be bad. The school has looked like a group of bumbling idiots throughout, as every time it starts to die down a new issue arises.

3 suspension-worthy issues in 10 months doesn't look good. Goddamn I was hoping to avoid a postseason ban.

Either way, I feel bad for the younger guys like Braxton/Carlos etc, as they will be the ones who miss out on a shot at a B1G title/BCS Bowl etc. I would like to repeat the sentiment posted above: SHIT OR GET OFF THE POT! This is so painfully slow.

I would be very surprised to see multiple years. Remember that USC received the dreaded Lack of Institutional Control and only has a two-year ban. OSU avoided LOIC. So it stands to reason they won't receive near that type of punishment.

Watch the UNC developments for some idea of what will happen. They were hit with FTC, not LOIC charge.

USC also got hit with a 30 scholarship reduction over 3 years... from a program standpoint that is more of a setback the 2 year postseason ban.

From reading the documents, the Failure to Monitor is because tOSU realized that there were issues with DiGeronimno as a booster a few years ago - they did some things to distance DiGeronimo from the program in 2005 and 2006.

But tOSU didn't take steps to make sure that players didn't attend the February, 2011 charity event without the compliance department's approval; and didn't make sure that anybody employed by DiGeronimo in the last couple of years had gotten approval and filled out the proper forms, etc.

I'm still hoping there's no postseason ban, but I think it could go either way. It sucks that the ruling won't come out until after the 2011 postseason.

Edit - Gee's cover letter asks for a review via conference call during the week of November 28th, and asks them to render a final decision on this case as soon thereafter as possible. It mentions something previously referred to in a November 3rd letter from University consultant Stephanie Hannah to NCAA Committee on Infractions member Shep Cooper, so it seems tOSU has been working to try to get this resolved in time for the 2011 postseason. But if tOSU defeats TSUN on Nov 26th to earn the CCG berth, can a ruling that occurs the following week affect the participants in the Dec 3rd CCG?
