The Carolinas all look the same to me. I think it's because they put mustard and vinegar on their barbeque. IOW, f-in heathens. :shake:

A colleague of mine spent some time at Ft. Bragg in the 70s as a Ranger. He received a photo album in the mail recently from his first wife (who he was married to at the time). In it, there is a picture of a billboard that greeted him as he entered North Carolina. (Paraphrased) It said, "North Carolina: Home of the Klan". Subtitled it said that it was against Integration and Communism. The picture of the Klansman was "in-action". If I get the chance, I'll ask him if I can SCAN it and post it.

Your post made me remember just how similar the two Carolinas are.

Edit:

Just found it in a search:

One exception was an actual Ku Klux Klan recruitment highway billboard which was featured in the film, suggesting the level of the Klan's support and influence in the town shown in the movie. Such billboards were a relatively common sight in the South during the mid-1960s time period that served as the film's setting. However, by the time of filming in 1976, the majority of them had been removed. The billboard that was ultimately used in the movie (shown right) was filmed at its location on U.S. Route 70 at the city limits of Smithfield, North Carolina. The sign was maintained there until the late 1970s, making Smithfield one of the last towns that the filmmakers could have found which continued to have such a sign displayed.[2][3][4]

As much as you will call South Carolinians a bunch of heathens, you should see how many people from Ohio live in South Carolina ( I moved here two years ago). It is friggin incredible. You can't spit without hitting a Buckeye fan.
And the Charleston area is such a nice place to live. I love it down here.

While OSU is my Alma Mater and I would pull for the Bucks in a head to head match up, South Carolina Gamecock football is fun to watch.

If you start talking about a love of boiled peanuts, you're no longer a real Buckeye.

Yeah I hear native South Carolinians have a web site dedicated to this phenomenon

HAHA yeah, there is a website. It is all in good fun though ... Also the Charleston Riverdogs (single A baseball) has a "Go back to Ohio" night at the park and Buckeye fans sell the place out. (Fun fact: Bill F'in Murray is one of the Riverdog's owners.)

I haven't personally had anything more than some casual ribbing about Ohio down here.

And while I now have a taste for shrimp n grits, I cannot stand boiled peanuts...

edit: And the Carolina girls are great too.

Try going to Hilton Head for some time in the summer. It's a LONG ongoing joke that their entire vacation economy is supported by folks from Ohio. I can tell you that the number of people from Ohio who vacation there is staggering.

I'll be there along with a dozen or so other Buckeyes in two weeks.

I've watched them play in the first televised game of the year on ESPN for the last six years or so and it has never been fun. It's like watching the Browns play the Bills.

I've had people down there randomly ask my family if we were from Ohio. I was impressed at first (thought they were psychic) but I figure during Summer, they have at least a .50 probability of guessing correctly. I do love it down there.

It's called "business". Has the Dispatch always been this much of a rag?

Yes, we called it the Columbus Despot and the morning rag was the Citizen - Urinal.

One thing they did do was cover Columbus HS football. They must have had a battalion of photogs as the Saturday papers would run whole sections of photos from all the games in 20 mile arc around the city. Then would come the Sunday story on the Buckeyes...

There is an ohio state bar/pizza joint in Hilton Head. The place was going out of business until they changed to an OSU theme. now it is packed every night. I know the only reason we went there was the OSU theme.
