Firstly, let's just hope this is not true

But if it is hopefully the OSU program can stay stronger than ever...

This may be the end of our "Golden era," with all of the unknowns in play...

Let's hope not. Not jumping off the ledge. Just saying that some serious changes may be forthcoming which could have a big impact on Ohio State football.

GO BUCKS!!!!!!!!

grad has been awfully silent during this. I don't think it takes a leap to realize he's Yahoo's source.

Had a revelation last night in bed that Yahoo's source on this was Herbstriet, and that the reason he was and needed to remain anonomous was to get moved on down to Tenn. before his name came out as the instigator. It all makes perfect sense. :tongue2:

At first blush, it would not make sense to vacate the season because what the players did is no different today than what it was in December.

But it could be different if some other things come to light that show there may have been "no control" by the University and its officials (i.e. Tressel, Smith, the athletic and compliance depts., etc.).

I think people need to step away from the computers for a bit. Only way this get's bad if Tress was infromed, was given names, and was pretty much like eff it.....
I agree with this.

The detail he would have been given would have to be substantial. If something was mentioned "in passing," then, yes, he should have made it known to compliance, but that's far different than hearing the full details of what was going on in his program and hiding it.

We'll find out soon.

You know I have kept my comments to myself up to this point. But I have to jump in and say that it just doesn't seem to add up. Why would JT sweep it under the carpet? It's just not his MO. The guy is class and has always strived to do the right thing. So to deliberatly lie to protect these 5 and in doing so risk his career and legacy? Does that sound like Tress to any of you?

Call me crazy, but JT admitting guilt almost smells like he'd be falling on his sword to protect the university. Buck stops here kind of thing.

Ok, just needed to get that off my chest...I hope beyond hope I'm just digging too deep here.

On a side note...I'm wearing my OSU fleece proudly right now...no matter what happens at 7pm! Go Bucks!

Unfortunately, it would be exactly Tressel if he had asked the players after this came to light, they lied to him, he moved on, and now he either has to fall on the sword or throw the players under the bus to clear his name.

Don't necessarily follow. The only other person that would be culpable in this is Smith, had JT informed him of the information and GS decided to sit on it. In that case (although the proper course of action for JT at that point would be to go straight to Gee), I can't see Gee and the Board letting JT leave to protect Smith. Honestly, Smith is a dime a dozen and can be replaced tomorrow.

Also, I don't like the scenario of JT going to the players but making no mention of it to the AD. That's NOT his decision to make regarding possible major violations.

I need to here if Tressel was informed. And how/who informed him and what he did/didn't do before making judgements.

Wasn't Gene Smith hired in part because of his experience sitting on the NCAA football rules committee? One would think there could be qualification for properly handling something like this.
