Checked this out for S&Gs again this morning to see if the fact that the SCHOOL sold the items and not the players had been noted.

What does the tool do, you ask? At the bottom of the article, he posts two updates, admitting he fucked up. (Although still throwing Boom under the bus by failing to report that 2009 equipment was sold the same way as 2010 equipment) But while he admits in the updates that the original story is about as true as reporting that Tressel has unicorns flying out of his ass, he leaves the body of the original story unchanged, including the incriminating title.

Journalism (term used loosely) at its finest.

I waited this long to post and just skimmed through the last page of this thread.

1. Sportsbybrooks? Seriously guys? That site is only good for one thing, and it's not the "news" coverage. :wink2:

2. The next time we want to break the rules, can it be over something more meaningful than tattoos and trinkets? Maybe we can spend 200k on buying a quarterback who will win us a national championship or something? That seems OK by the NCAA!

Gene Smith was just on CBS, post-Buckeyes win over scUM.

He was posed the question of, "If you really want this suspension to have some teeth, why not suspend Coach Tressel for two conference game instead of the two winable games he's out for?"

That got me thinking. If OSU did suspend Tressel for say the first two games of the conference, I would find that be an EXTREMELY disrespectful sign for all of our opponents. To not take him out against Toledo and Akron, IMO says "Akron, Toledo you two suck so we we don't think you are worthy enough to warrant a suspension of our coach." You have to respect each team on your schedule equally.

Respectfully, going back further and reading might be interesting to you, as you seem not to appreciate the irony of that last sentence if you take out the money aspect and insert an eligibility aspect.

Probably arose because of the Pearl suspensions being made specifically for in-conference games - seen as a greater penalty than being suspended for non-conference games. Not so much to do with the ease of win thing (although that is a factor), but for the fact that it hurts your shot at a conference championship more, and is thus deemed a tougher penalty.

For those that don't know, Pearl's suspension for SEC games came from the SEC commisioner, not from Tennessee or the NCAA. He is still waiting to hear from the NCAA.

If JT had been suspended for conference games, we'd probably be hearing complaints from some people about the suspension not being effective immediately. :tongue2:

The items were absolutely auctioned off by the school (for big money too). Absolutely nothing to worry about there.

The comments section referencing the "400 violations over 10 years". I swear if I read that statistic one more time I'm going to scream. The Columbus Dispatch really dropped the ball for journalism with that article that they put out. You don't want to be biased regardless of where you are located..but in their case they wrote an article that was both unclear and painted a deceitful picture of the Ohio State athletic department

Not to mention if they waited 4 games to suspend them, if we won those first two, it would be because Tressel was able to coach and correct and the get groove going earlier in the season.
