Agree 100% with this. Just have to see how his arm is compared to Harris. Great pickup! :osu:

I know that this is just H.S. but he seemed very relaxed in the pocket....IF QB doesn't work out, he will be a good sized DB for us..and being a QB in H.S. he is probably going to be able to pick up the pass D pretty well as he will probably understand it much better coming from an Offensive perspective...

Have to agree with the assessment about his value on the D.
I was impressed with the quality of his play in the first round of the playoffs.
Reed was a relentless cover corner when locked down on the #1 receiver.
His size made him effective in bump and run, often times preventing WR from release off the LOS.
With the present scarcity of DB offers, and the number of openings in the OSU depth chart through '10, I have to believe Reed sees the field faster in the secondary rotation. His size and athleticism screams Safety, but I would also believe he could be the next Chris Gamble at the corner.
Welcome to the family and savor every moment of your Buckeye experience, Verlon.

Depending on how he fills out he could play all over the place. QB obviously but also a WR, DB or Safety. Gotta love these local guys that could play a lot of positions in the future. Go Bucks

Assured of shot at QB, Reed picks Buckeyes
Thursday, December 17, 2009 3:21 AM
By Ken Gordon

Verlon Reed always dreamed of playing for Ohio State, but he also was determined he would play quarterback in college.

He would have none of this recruited as an athlete stuff.

So once he got coach Jim Tressel's word that he would get a fair shot to play quarterback with the Buckeyes, Reed's future was determined. The Marion-Franklin standout committed to the 2010 recruiting class yesterday.

"This is a dream come true for me. I've wanted to do this my whole life," Reed said. "I'm a quarterback who can run very well. I've been mistaken as an athlete playing quarterback."

Reed is a great pickup by OSU

From what I heard from a close insider report (Can't say who), OSU coaches loved his attitude and politeness, one of the main reasons he was offered and assured the chance at QB. Always great to see a fellow City League kid get to stay in Columbus. This has been Verlon's dream and I'm sure he will capitalize on it.

Verlon Reed Stays at Home, Likes the Cooking, Pledges Bucks
Phil Fritz, Senior Editor
(2009-12-27)

PrepStar All-Region safety Verlon Reed has accepted an offer to play for Ohio State. The Columbus Marion-Franklin athlete picked the Buckekyes over competition over comvetion from Ball State, Bowling Green, visited early this month, Kansas State, Michigan State, Ohio, Syracuse and Toledo. Ball State, Cincinnati, Ohio, and Michigan State did not offer.
Reed weighs 185 pounds and is, reportedly, in the 4.6 range (his numbers are awaiting update) in the forty-yard dash.

Verlon is a multiple-position player at Marion Franklin, mainly mentionned as a quarterback and wide receiver on offense, but is expected to be slotted as a safety for the Buckeyes. He is the fifteenth player to pledge the Bucks this year. This is a very good class, even through that number is not high.

Scout $ - Reed Hoping To Inspire Others
By Adam Jardy

Nice piece with lots of quotes from Reed about what an honor and privilege it is to become a part of The Ohio State family. He's looking forward to setting an example for other young men in Columbus to follow. Sparty and scUM were set to offer if the Bucks didn't. Once OSU promised a shot at QB it was over.
