WR Dane Sanzenbacher (Official Thread)

Dane showed us his big play ability. Posting this after the loss seems a little off, but somehow it makes me feel a little better. Looking at one of the positives in this game is what this hopes to accomplish. This team has a very bright future and it should focus on Toledo next and take away a few lessons to improve each week. I hate the loss but no one was injured and the season is young. Go Bucks.

He beat Taylor Mays on this one, and even better days are ahead.

Lots of great pictures in the article

Sanzenbacher Still Strong for Toledo, But Stronger for O-H-I-O.
By Brandon Castel

In his three years at Ohio State, wide receiver Dane Sanzenbacher has learned to hate everything blue and gold.

It?s just part of the culture in Columbus, but it wasn?t always that way for the junior who leads the Buckeyes with 115 receiving yards this season. A product of Toledo (Ohio) Central Catholic, Sanzenbacher spent his youth watching the University of Toledo and even considered wearing the Rockets? midnight blue and gold before opting instead for scarlet and gray.

"I mean, it's Toledo. You've got the Mud Hens, you've got Tony Packo's and you've got the Rockets,? Sanzenbacher said.

?That's pretty much what you've got, so I mean, I grew up seeing games in the Glass Bowl and Bruce Gradkowski and ?Scooter? McDougle and all those guys."

Sanzenbacher even played against current UT quarterback Aaron Opelt ? who leads the nation in total offense ? during his state-championship junior season at Central Catholic, and now he will get a chance to play against his hometown team Saturday when the Buckeyes face off against the Rockets at Cleveland Browns Stadium in downtown Cleveland, Ohio.

?It is a little bit different,? Sanzenbacher said of this week?s feel.

?Just growing up around Toledo, growing up going to the Glass Bowl and watching Toledo play and just knowing guys on the team, it brings a different element to it.?

That got a chuckel from the reporters in the video I saw.

And soon Toledo will have the Walleyes, a new minor league hockey team in a brand new stadium. Toledo will be a veritable sports mecca in the not too distant future. And Tony Packo's too!

I'm glad he picked Ohio State, but would have followed him there too.

Ride of a lifetime
Dane Sanzenbacher almost became a Rocket

COLUMBUS - An unexpected offer from a coach at a City League rival, then a bus ride arranged by an iconic high school figure from Cleveland, followed by a chance to audition your talents in front of the Ohio State staff - that's about all that came between Dane Sanzenbacher being a Toledo Rocket - or an Ohio State Buckeye

The game was less than nine minutes old, and the kid from Toledo had staked his team to a 14-0 lead over the Rockets.

He caught both long and short passes for TDs. It's becoming a routine play with Pryor to Sanzo with three long balls in three game. Two for TDs.
That catch against USC set up a TD for Boom. I'm sure Dane didn't like getting caught from behind in that game, but that was not going to happen against his home town team. Let me say that knowing him since HS, this doesn't surprise me. "The kid from Toledo" has been a baller from the get go. He always had a knack for making big plays at the most opportune time. Nice to see he's making the best of those opportunities and staying true to form. All in all a big day for Sanzo. As always, it's good to be a Buckeye.

BTN just announced Dane was one of three best performances of the week.
As Joe Pa says - it's time to go out and get a plate of spaghetti! :osu:

He possesses touchdowns

12:10 The color commentator Doug Chapman called Dane Sanzenbacher a possession receiver. Do possession receivers normally average 28 yards per catch like Sanzo is doing?
12:11 Pryor goes deep to a wide open Dane Sanzenbacher and it?s a 76-yard touchdown to the crafty and extremely coachable possession receiver! The Toledo kid breaks the heart of the team whose heart he already broke when he chose Ohio State. Yes, he?s a possession receiver--he possesses touchdowns. Buckeyes lead 7-0.

That's what I'm talking about. Hopefully more "possessions" in the weeks to come

Sounds like Ted Ginn Sr. saw what Dane had to offer a bit earlier than the Buckeye coaching staff:

Sanzenbacher is averaging an astonishing 26.7 yards on his nine receptions. Three have gone for touchdowns, two of them on third down. Coming through in the clutch was also a "Gonzo" virtue.

Mr clutch = Sanzo. More to come in this young season IMHO.
