WR Dane Sanzenbacher (Official Thread)

A} he wasn't open most of the time or B} he wasn't getting checked as a secondary receiver or C} TB loves throwing the long ball and those routes are run by the Brians and not Sanzo. Open this game up, pass to everyone, and watch the points go on the board. Personally, I think TB needs to learn from Pryor on how to execute.

or D} Dane got his bell rung and that was that. It was game ONE.

Wow @ the bolded part.

It is my opinion that you have this semi backwards. Boeckman didn't seem to look around as much because he knows where he wants to go with the ball. Not a lot of looking to your 3rd or 4th option when #1 and #2 are open and you can get them the ball.

Also, I think much of Pryor looking around so much had to do with inexperience as much as "seeing the field." It is to be expected IMO but when the primary read isn't open (or as open as he'd like) he probably is going to "panic" a bit more than Boeckman (or at least go straight to the "dump off' or underneath stuff).

Back to the point though, I think you are drawing quite the conclusions from ONE game against a severely inferior opponent.

Man we get it, he doesn't throw the ball to Dane enough!! You think Todd is a terrible QB, etc. There are a room full of people who have a lot more at stake at this game and it's their profession that have full faith in Todd. Trust me, if the coaches thought Pryor gave us the best change to win he would be playing!

Well, another Todd fan emerges. I don't think Todd is terrible, I just think he doesn't use all the weapons at WR that he could. This isn't going to go anywhere because he the senior QB and we need his leadership. But with a very talented backup or two behind him, this team can do a lot more. As I stated in the WR thread. We need both styles of offense. The pro style that will make use of the long ball and give Beanie the opportunity to run for 1600 yards (hopefully). We also need TP and the spread that will allow the WRs to flourish. Yes, TB doesn't throw it to Dane enough because Dane is a secondary receiver in his style of offense. That will change with Pryor this year or next.

Defending Todd? That's OK, but the QB has the better field of vision. The receiver doesn't know who's behind him. Pryor will execute the short and medium yardage passes better IMO. I can't wait to see more of him at QB, but for now it's Todd. He'll do a decent job and we'll applaud his long balls until they become jump balls again. Maybe it'll be better this year.

Taos said they were bringing the wood, this is Youngstown State not USC. I wonder how the wood will be on that day? We better find a way to locate the open receivers when that day comes.
God, Todd sucks so bad. Good thing Troy never left someone out to dry..

Maybe this was exaggerated for effect. I think your right about ONE game against a severely inferior opponent. Tressel has ONE more though before he faces a NOT so inferior opponent. Let's hope he has some tricks up his sleaves for Sept 13th in terms of using both QBs and all the WRs. I hope Todd takes us all the way and long balls play into a successful game plan. Just saying that I'm not excited about the predictable play I've seen. IMHO

No exaggeration on my end.

I think you are severely off base if you think Todd cannot get the ball to the 3rd and 4th WR's in this offense. I think the fact you even bring up the YSU game as evidence is ridiculous given the offensive play calling. I think it down right RIDICULOUS for you to state that "TB needs to learn from Pryor to execute" based off of that ONE game.

I think we both agree we want Todd to perform well enough to win. I've made my point though, I'm done. Hopefully Dane gets the ball a bit more....

I'm not getting into the frey but if WR are left hanging out to dry against USC they will be carted off the field on a stretcher...YSU is bad enough.

We need every weapon we have against USC. Staring down WR or locking on one will result in multiple INT's.

There is no way in hell that a receiver can see the field on the type of route Dane is running, or any route thats going underneath the defense. This isn't Madden, when your running a route like that you try to catch the ball and tuck it as quickly as you can and brace yourself for the hit.

Todd hung Dane out to freakin' dry, you can't defend the QB on that one. Dane did an excellent job holding onto the ball, I know a lot of receivers that would've dropped it. Have you played receiver before? Or even watched someone running the route Dane ran against a defense like that? There is no way to get out of the way of a hit like that, as soon as Dane touched the ball he got rocked. He would have to either A) Be Superman or B) Work with Barwis to get out of the way of the hit.

I'm sorry to have upset you, sir.

I agree with OSUBuckeye4Life here. Todd did do a good job spreading it around, as the ten separate players that made catches on Sat. indicates. Hartline only had a couple of catches and I think the same for Robiskie. I hope Dane shines and I'm sure he will be a very nice niche player like Gonzo, but to blame Todd for his getting hammered and only having one catch is not logical.

For what it's worth, locked on? Pryor hit Posey how many times?

I loved what I saw from Pryor, but no way in hell is he the starting QB as long as Boeckman is healthy. He's got a lot to learn. He'll be fantastic next year and there may be some other ways to work him in to the lineup other than as QB, but right now it's Todd's job.

No one wants to see this happen again. It hurts just watching it. No sarcasm intended.

You need to chill dude. Todd played damn well yesterday. His passes were almost always to the right person based upon coverage. You say he doesn't utilize his all his weapons...you are out of your mind. Yeah, I wish the pass to Dane wouldn't have happened, but Todd's play was nonetheless stellar yesterday.

Back to Dane, I'm glad HE'S man enough to play the game w/o whining and catch a damn tough catch. He's a player and fills his role (which he knows all too well) quite well.
