WR Dane Sanzenbacher (Official Thread)

Buckeye Leaves

This surprised me somewhat;

Boone, Hartline, Nicol, Robiskie, Sanzenbacher, and Small received 8 leaves for the YSU game.

Followed by

Ballard, Laurinaitis, Moeller, B. Smith and Spitler received 7 leaves

Interesting that Sanzenbacher received 8 - the criteria must score them on some other intangibles.

I think Dane deserved all 8 leaves for hanging on to the ball after getting hung out to dry. That stuff happens and as every coach would say - "if you are going to get hit, you may as well hang on to the ball". Plus - it isn't like he stayed on the ground for five minutes or anything. He got up, albeit a little woozy and we even saw him later in the game.

He keeps showing that toughness and that he has sure hands and I am sure he will see more passes his way.

BELL RUNG:@ WR Dane Sanzenbacher sustained the hit of the game when he was smothered by Youngstown State's Lenny Wicks on a short pass play, almost having his head separated from his body by the vicious hit.

"I didn't feel great. It just knocked the wind out of me for a little bit. Luckily it wasn't any head injury or anything to keep me out," said Sanzenbacher, who held onto the reception.

He said he'd taken some heat from his teammates this week for also being on the receiving end of that blunt-force trauma. They have razzed him all week about the brutal hit. He even thinks they were behind him being summoned to talk to reporters after the game.

"I think I got called up to (meet with) media after the game just to talk about that, actually," he said.

In this week's OZone interview on YouTube Dane explains he was actually trying to get up before the injury whistle, but didn't beat the count. He was back on the field the play after that, though.

Dane's Day

DANE'S DAY: Ohio State sophomore wide receiver Dane Sanzenbacher from Central Catholic had four receptions for 32 yards. Sanzenbacher had a critical 12-yard catch on a third-and-11 play from the OU 26 on the final play of the third quarter, with the Buckeyes trailing 14-12. Ohio State scored three plays later to take the lead for good.

"It felt good to get that one and keep the drive going - we really needed to get some rhythm offensively," Sanzenbacher said. "We struggled today, and I think a lot of it was just poor execution. The plays we ran weren't necessarily bad calls. It was a lot of poor execution."

It's no exaggeration that Dane had a good day. I'll take the positives from this game. As we approach the USC game, let's hope the team considers that this was a wake up call. We will go into the next game and fight every second for every inch...

Best blocking and fearless - I'd better get off and go back to work or I'll be overflowing will this all afternoon. Thanks Dane ... Good luck in SoCal. I'll be in Thousand Oaks, CA watching it on TV (my tickets source fizzled)

I agree with above posters that Dane was aggressive on Saturday and was where he needed to be and made the catches. He and Small did the things necessary to win.

I do like the way Dane works the middle of the field. He has a feel for open space and works well in traffic.
