WR Dane Sanzenbacher (Official Thread)

I'm getting the feeling Sanzo and Browning could be the keys to this season, especially the USC game. USC's secondary is good enough to keep Robo and Hartline in check but with Dane's amazing route running, he could burn them all night with short to intermediate routes. Think Gonzo vs. Texas in '06. :wink2:

I agree to some extent, but SC's safeties are better than their CBs. Plus, with the LBers they have, I don't know how effective it would be to challenge them in the middle of the field.

The Sanzenbacher of last year has been replaced with the new and improved version. No longer a freshman learning the game, he'll emerge as a quality receiver with an edge. My reference is what I've seen in HS and '07 at tOSU. He played defense in HS as well and wasn't afraid to get into the mix. Granted CFB is another level with bigger, faster and equally talented players. Somehow I think he'll figure out a way to beat them offensively. If he can grow from this in '08 and improve his game he will squelch the Dane doubters and we'll all see him in a different light. Tressel will use him to the extent of his ability, and there is plenty of it. He's one player out of eleven, let the bundle strain but not break.

Moving to the receivers, and I hate love to say I told you so, but Posey looked great and may be on pace for that 400+ prediction. His touchdown was a glimpse of the shifts and speed he has and though he did get dinged-up taking his first real college hit, he could become a major factor for this team as a freshman. That and it was the first good thing that happened after the Wells injury and fans needed the boost. The kid with all of the pub coming out of camp, Dane Sanzenbacher, had one catch on the day: a four-yard sacrifice, compliments of Boeckman, who hung him out to dry.

Eleven Warriors ? The Win is Nice, but Bated Breath Waits

Got the wind knocked out of him, why were the receivers not open? Another look at the game recording may show otherwise. TB looks to his primary receivers and overlooks the others. I like to way Pryor stood in the pocket, he passed well and effectively. This offense should figure out a way to use them both and pass something other than 50 yards bombs to the Brians.

When the receiver calls for the ball, I can't agree that the QB hung him out to dry. The QB has to trust that the receiver sees the field and will get out of the way of the hit.

Defending Todd? That's OK, but the QB has the better field of vision. The receiver doesn't know who's behind him. Pryor will execute the short and medium yardage passes better IMO. I can't wait to see more of him at QB, but for now it's Todd. He'll do a decent job and we'll applaud his long balls until they become jump balls again. Maybe it'll be better this year.

Taos said they were bringing the wood, this is Youngstown State not USC. I wonder how the wood will be on that day? We better find a way to locate the open receivers when that day comes.

There is no way in hell that a receiver can see the field on the type of route Dane is running, or any route thats going underneath the defense. This isn't Madden, when your running a route like that you try to catch the ball and tuck it as quickly as you can and brace yourself for the hit.

Todd hung Dane out to freakin' dry, you can't defend the QB on that one. Dane did an excellent job holding onto the ball, I know a lot of receivers that would've dropped it. Have you played receiver before? Or even watched someone running the route Dane ran against a defense like that? There is no way to get out of the way of a hit like that, as soon as Dane touched the ball he got rocked. He would have to either A) Be Superman or B) Work with Barwis to get out of the way of the hit.

Not sure why this is a huge debate....Dane ran a crossing route in the middle of a zone...Boeckman did "hang him out to dry", but aren't receivers responsible for catching anything they can get their hands on?

Boeckman made a good pass into a small throwing window that hit Dane in the hands and he held onto it after getting killed...I would say job well done on both sides...

"Boeckman held him out to dry..." implies purpose, n'cest pas? If a QB throws a pass with the intention of getting his receiver clobbered that's a heavy charge. That Boeckman didn't see the coverage, got concerned about the time he had to throw and threw a pass it would have been wiser to not throw is a better way of analyzing the situation IMO.

As for improvements, Small is a very pleasant sight.

Utah beat SCum partially because they play a spread that found 9 receivers in the first half for about 200 yards. We seem to have a wealth of receivers, let's use them. Maybe not with Todd as the fulltime QB. I like to fact the Posey and Ray contributed. It's the the Dane Sanzenbacher Show, I understand that, but one catch (his only catch), means A} he wasn't open most of the time or B} he wasn't getting checked as a secondary receiver or C} TB loves throwing the long ball and those routes are run by the Brians and not Sanzo. Open this game up, pass to everyone, and watch the points go on the board. Personally, I think TB needs to learn from Pryor on how to execute.

Man we get it, he doesn't throw the ball to Dane enough!! You think Todd is a terrible QB, etc. There are a room full of people who have a lot more at stake at this game and it's their profession that have full faith in Todd. Trust me, if the coaches thought Pryor gave us the best change to win he would be playing!
