Game Thread Wisconsin at tOSU, Sep 28th, 8 ET, ABC/ESPN/ESPN2

You have to respect Wisconsin in terms of their running game and defense. We can't let them have their game - mainly 15 play drives that keep our offense off the field. Ohio State has too many weapons to defend - whether Brax plays or not. An elite defense may be able to limit them, but I don't think Wisky has those kinds of athletes on that side of the ball. So, we need to play our game and not turn the ball over. If we do that, we will score, and then we will put the pressure on them to keep up - which they can't unless they are running on us at will - which I do not think is gonna happen. It better not. Best scenario is getting Stave in 3rd and long and forcing him to beat us throwing. Make them play left handed.

To make sure we are all on the same page, fuck Wisconsin.

Style points aside, we only have to win by one. There was a time not too long ago that this was not necessarily a comfortable thought. Now, though, I think we have the ability to not only control a game to counter our inability to generate points but to turn on the jets early, get ahead, and then keep the game out of reach with the run game. This isn't an air raid offense that has to keep slinging it for four quarters because that's all it's got; with the downside of giving the other side a chance to get back in the game. Urban's stressed getting on the board early and often. We do that and then play an aggressive quasi-Tressel-like second half and we'll be fine.

I'm a fan of the bolded part regarding the Wisky linebackers.

I think Ohio State's biggest advantage in this game is going to be exploiting Wisconsin's team speed, or lack thereof, on defense.

I am especially looking forward to Wisconsin's awkwardly large (ie slow), still transitioning to a new defense LBs trying to keep up with guys like Dontre Wilson.

I should say that Wisconsin's defense is faster than it traditionally has been in the past. That has been an emphasis of the new staff; they see the way the game is heading and know speed has to be an emphasis. The first few defensive recruits under Andersen have been much more athletic than those that Bielema brought in (LB Leon Jacobs is a perfect example).

Wisconsin is still not on the same plane as Ohio State in terms of team speed and athleticism, but they're trying to get there. There will be some growing pains along the way, however, and we might see those exposed this Saturday.

I think that they will be, Bucky32. They looked very slow to me against Pudue, especially the secondary. I think Ohio State wil have success getting the tight ends into the game. If TOP goes Ohio State's way and those Wisky linemen tire, then the game may not be as clisr as many of us think it will be.

Outside of this game, I do think that eventually, once every linebacker is a slightly larger safety to combat the current trends on offense, a team is going to come back with a classic Wisconsin circa 1999 style offense and have great success with it.

Actually, now that I think about it, that's pretty much exactly what Alabama is having great success with currently.

That's why it's nice to have Carlos Hyde back out there. Opposing defenses are going to stress the most about defending the perimeter against the ridiculous amount of speed that Meyer is currently stockpiling, and while they worry and prepare for that, Carlos Hyde (or a similar player) will be consistently rumbling for 5+ yards up the middle out of the hurry up as defenders scramble to figure out who they are supposed to be covering.

Last year Bert had his safeties (usuallly both of them) in the box by the time the ball was snapped - and that allowed them to contain Brax. For whatever reason, Herman never threw the ball over the top down the middle of the field. If they do that nonsense again, we should burn them.

Some Ohio State fans are bemoaning the fact that KG will be on the sidelines for this one (as far as we know), and some Wisky fans are actually happy that they will be facing Brax instead of the great KG. I think we should file this one under "be careful what you wish for". Brax is the best runner from the QB position in CFB when he is fully healthy. If you want to roll the dice again and bring those safeties up, you should get burned deep. If Brax can't hit it, that will put Urban and Herman in an interesting position where they might need to bring Kenny in to get them out of that - but that would potentially create a fan/media QB controversy that we don't need. Best scenario is that Brax burns them if they try it, and we continue to have the best backup QB in the history of backup QB's.

Honestly I'd love to have them just alternate series. Both can run and pass, so they can't predict based off of who's in. Would also help alleviate stress on the knee while testing it.

This obviously implies that the offense doesn't get out of sync due to the QB switch.

Really glad that Bennett is 100% to go and that Washington is probable to play. We are going to need both of these guys against UW's stellar running game. Hoping for a BIG game from Curtis Grant and Josh Perry. I love both of these guys size and athleticism and think that they will fare well in smash mouth play. Just need everyone to wrap up and secure the tackle and we'll be fine.

My guess: BUCKS by 17 pts.

I can't agree with that at all. Miller is our guy and needs to start and play. Pick a guy and stick with him until something happens that would require the backup to come in. Kenny did a fantastic amazing job filling in for Miller. But he's just that, a fill in for Miller. Miller is back, Miller plays.
