Urban F. Meyer (Former OSU, CFB and NFL coach)

Gotta love Urban. An absolute maniac. Taken from the Athletic:

One day earlier this month, though, it was Meyer who found himself in the middle of a set of drills between linebackers and tight ends. When the period ended, Meyer grabbed a towel and vigorously wiped sweat from his face.

Love Urban

Can’t relate to him in the slightest bit.

After the stupid Zach Smith shot to end his Buckeye tenure, with his health issues yet sitting on 3 Natty’s and plenty of money and a cushy TV gig……..I’d ride that TV deal a while and just have fun with it.

When it stopped being fun I’d be like….c ya.

Lawrence taking hits running the ball downfield in preseason is cringe.

It’s not like it was a designed run. That’s on Lawrence for not getting down.

They do look terrible though. Meyer was beside himself when power spread wouldn’t work down on goaline…..like not even close….the plays were just getting blown up.

Maybe in regular season with a QB threat that “may” keep the ball……but shotgun power with zero threat of QB keep is just a disaster at NFL level.

I still hate his OC hire too (Darrell Bevell)….about as vanilla and uninspiring a hire as possible.

Still rooting for him….just don’t see much chance for success the more I watch.

Sounds about as effective as trying to run read option with Haskins.

The QB is either a threat and gets injured, or isn’t a threat and the play doesn’t work.

For being an all-time great, Meyer really seems to insist on making incredibly predictable bad strategy decisions.

In fairness, he views the QB hand-off to running back (from shotgun) as no different than lining up the QB under center. He had that whole breakdown on Big 10 Network explaining his reasoning, and it was pretty rational.

He always wants the numbers advantage. That said, in NFL pre-season, when QB is no threat at all….it’s just asking to get destroyed.

He’s an all-time great because of his recruiting and master ability to motivate kids as if their lives depend on every 4-6 seconds play.

He’s definitely part of revolutionizing the spread/power spread offense but a lot of his “edges” at the college level - out talenting, motivating (sometimes rough) kids, and power QB schemes- are gone at the NFL level.

Anyway, my personal opinion is I’m thankful for Urban’s time at OSU, winning a title, beating that team up north and taking the Bucks to an even higher level…but I’m glad I don’t have to defend him anymore.

Yeah same... I'd be shocked if he has a winning record when his NFL career is done. In a way he even left college at the right time too. The QB run became less and less effective as time went and teams had to throw the ball.

UFM made a lot of good coaching hires and the best one was he hired Ryan Day who truly has turned out to be revolutionary when it comes to throwing the ball.

UFM Kept OSU afloat in 2012 and brought us to be one of the top 3 programs in the country. IMO thought he got out at the exact right time.
