UEFA Champions League (Official Thread)

WHAT A TURN OF EVENTS. John Terry straight red. Just kneed Alexis Sanchez in the back away from the ball & the ref spotted it. WOW. This is effing nuts. It's all level on aggregate & Chelsea are down to 10 men.

Chelsea have ZERO center backs in the game now. Cahill came off for Bosingwa & with John Terry being sent off, Mikel has moved back into the middle. Looks daunting for the Blues now.

That didn't take long. Messi plays Iniesta through & it's 2-0 Barcelona now (2-1 aggregate). 44th minute. That was a heartbreaker for Chelsea. The announcer just put it best "Chelsea's hopes are crumbling now". Indeed they are.

Not so fast my friend. Frank Lampard puts Ramires through alone & he chips Valdes to put Chelsea back ahead on aggregate. What an unreal ending to the first half.

Good. [censored] John Terry and [censored] Chelsea.

Well Chelsea are currently up on aggregate after that Ramires goal. Barcelona apparently never got the memo that you have to finish the first half.

I feel like I just watched a 45-minute Blue Jackets power play. What a limp performance by Barca. 90% of that time was spent with 9 white shirts within 20 yards of their own goal, with Barca and their system trying to be too clever by half. They had no urgency - as if the next goal was their right. In the last 20 minutes they should have at least tried to test Chelsea from distance. They had all kinds of room to shoot from just beyond the top of the penalty area, and with Chelsea packed in so densely they could have screened or wrongfooted Cech at some point. Oh well - live by the system, die by the system.

That's the recipe for defeating Barca. Granted, they secured a draw, but it's all they needed.

Milan used the same strategy against Barca in the Group Stage. I can't understand why they didn't use the same tactic in the Quarters.
