UEFA Champions League (Official Thread)

Bayern Munich get the opener within the first ten minutes. Toni Kroos with a splendid effort smashed to the ground from the top of the box to get it past Mertesacker & eventually the back of the net. Exactly what Arsenal couldn't afford to have happen, happened. Even bigger hill to climb for the Gunners now.

Only continues to get worse for Arsenal. Muller pokes in a rebound off a headed corner. Arsenal defending is completely nonexistent & it's looking more & more daunting now with Bayern Munich up 2-0 on away goals 22 minutes in. Bayern Munich have been utterly dominant since scoring the opener & haven't let up even for a second. Arsenal need to get something going immediately or it could get real ugly soon.

Lifeline for Arsenal ? Has to be the first goal I can recall off a corner that the ball hit the ground first. Nice reaction by Podolski to head it in. At least the crowd are rejuvenated, we'll see how the team responds.

Well, you can put Bayern Munich through to the next round. To be fair to Arsenal, Bayern Munich have been as good as any club in the world so far this season. They've conceded just seven, yes, SEVEN goals in the Bundesliga this season through 22 games. That's absurd. They really looked like a team that can win this thing this year. Whether they can get past that whole Final thing remains to be seen, but once again they look a very formidable team that can play with any team in the world. Going to be an extremely tough out in this competition & they get Pep next season.

Michel Platini's (of UEFA) plan, instead of technology, is to add yet another referee on the touchline. So officials on both sides of the goals and a total of seven officials.

...and this guy is going to run FIFA shortly :(

Whenever I see the name Michel Platini mentioned in any regard, I immediately mentally prepare myself for something preposterous. This is no different. I've disagreed with essentially every single one of his "desired changes" & the only point I've even come remotely close to agreeing with him is on his views of Messi. Then again, virtually everyone agrees with those points on Leo, but Sepp Blatter is pretty horrendous in his own regard, so Platini might be the lesser of two evils, but I'm not so sure. Future looks bleak to say the least.

Too bad Balotelli is cup tied. :wink2:

I'm not so sure they'll need it. I'm not saying Barca is just going to bow out of the CL, but Milan has a solid, young squad, ready to make a run.

They're success in this tournament is entirely dependent on the play of El-Shaarawy and KPB, IMO.

Ambrosini played out of his mind in today's fixture. I've been overly critical of him at times, but he really is a great CDM in the Serie A.
