UEFA Champions League (Official Thread)

Remember Nigel de Jong didn't get a Red for his karate kick in the WC Finals?

I'm still laughing at that.

He was gone regardless, but I'm debating whether Nani will be remembered in better terms than Tim Howard (after his play against Porto in the CL). Nani better brush up on his Italian (but he was leaving regardless).

As I read twitter and game feeds, I notice a distinct different in reaction to the red card by Man U supporters and everyone else as to its merit. I'll be interested in the opinions of commentators across the globe... well, not the US based ones.

That was probably the last game Nani played for United, outside of spot duty if United were to clinch the EPL.

The funny thing is, they can go out to Chelsea over the weekend in the FA Cup.

Chelsea have a Europa first leg match on Thursday, so depending on the rotation Chelsea may be fielding a somewhat weaker squad come Saturday.

ESPNFC (the abroad guys anyway) are actually some of the best out there, IMO.

They haven't been entered into the "Machine" yet.

You know the "First-Take-isation" of ESPN and the WWF-ificiation of that network.

Oh, the need to create fake arguments and our own news, rather than just covering sports.

That's one thing I'm not looking forward to with Soccer's growth in the USA.

Right now it's an untouched, unadulterated gem of a game is the USA. Very raw and not overdone.

But once ESPN really sees the money to be made in the sport (it's now the second most popular sport among 12-24 year olds in the US) the bastardization will come swiftly.

FSC has been leading the bastardization charge pretty much since they went HD in 2010.

Well, ESPN's next move, since they lost EPL games and the World Cup (after 2014) is to broadcast the Mexican League.

So I don't know if those commentators will go Skip Bayless/Stephen Smith on people.

Notice how ESPN got the rights to broadcast Mexico heading into the WC  (Trial Balloon).

I think Champions League is back-up for bidding shorty, and with FOX cutting FOX Soccer (turns into FS2), it'll be interesting where the CL goes.

Heck, it might be Al-Jazeera (BeINSports).
