UEFA Champions League (Official Thread)

Remarkable first half. Can't believe El Shaarawy blew that chance at the end of the half. How do you miss the target from that close ? I thought only Torres was capable of such misery. This 2nd half should be quite entertaining now that Arsenal believe they can do it & the Emirates is fully behind them as well.

Maxi Pereira scored in added time to put Benfica up 1-0 (3-3 Aggregate, Benfica with two away goals) over Zenit St Petersburg. Zenit will have to come out of there defensive shell in the 2nd half if they are to progress.

El Shaa hasn't developed his shooting game as quickly as he's developed his dribbling game. Love his footwork, hate his finishes. But he's young, and has plenty of time to get everything going.

Same goes for Robinho. No one in the world has more opportunities in front of goal, and fail more than 'Binho.

MAD props to Arsenal for bringing it today. I thought they'd show fight, just not THIS much fight! When they really want to play solid, fundamental football, they are certainly capable of doing it. Only problem, how often do they play solid, fundamental football?

Is Maxi Lopez available for Milan? I know he is a recent transfer window signing, but am not sure if he's eligible for the CL. Would like to see him make an appearance if he is eligible.

Is it kick a Chelsea fan week and no one told me?

So be it.

Well Chelsea did win 2-0 today to progress through to the quarter-finals of the FA Cup. There were two worse misses than El Shaarawy's in the 2nd half. Lord knows what was going through van Persie's mind when he tried to chip that one over the goalie. You can't try to be finesse when you REALLY need a goal. Nocerino's was even worse considering he had the entire net wide open and he hit the ball directly at the goalie with the outside of his right foot.

So much for DVR'ing that game while I watched the Milan-Gunners game. :smash:

My bad, my blunder. I was going to put the score of the Benfica-Zenit game up here too, but I saw at the last second you were going to watch it.

Listened to much of the audio of the FA Cup match...but have yet to see any highlights.

I think it will be replayed on Fox Soccer either tonight or tomorrow night..can't recall which. I'm hopeful that this is correct. I don't get to watch the Blues actually win a match very often of late.

Tomorrows games are Barcelona vs. Bayer Leverkusen & APOEL Nicosia vs. Lyon. Both kicking off at 2:45 pm.

Barcelona hold a commanding 3-1 lead over Leverkusen with three away goals and are sure to go through to the next round barring a fiasco of biblical proportions at the Camp Nou. They will be without Alexis Sanchez, Puyol, Abidal and Thiago Alcantara but that shouldn't affect them too much.

Lyon head to Cyprus with a mere 1-0 lead on aggregate which could prove troublesome considering Lyon's away record in domestic & European competition this season. They should still win this tie but don't be surprised if APOEL put up more of a fight than many expect, especially at home.

FINE! Go for it. I'll just stay away from this thread.

Just be sure to watch it. It is a pairing and result like that match that makes me wonder if we could make an aggregate arrangement work in American college football....it will never happen..but it would be ever so awesome.

Even if it were just for the BCS bowl matchups.

Not to ruin it for any of you who didn't watch the game, but if you want to see some incredible history, watch a replay of the Barcelona-Leverkusen match. Nothing short of remarkable what happened.

Damnit! I stopped watching because the Aggregate had gotten to 4-1.
