UEFA Champions League (Official Thread)

First legs from Lyon & Leverkusen are now over.

Bayer Leverkusen 1-3 Barcelona.
Alexis Sanchez started the scoring in the 40th minute through the goalies five-hole after a Messi through pass left him one-on-one. Leverkusen responded in the 52nd minute as Michael Kadlec rose above Sanchez to head home after a Corluka cross. Alexis Sanchez responded two minutes later as Fabregas threaded a beautiful through ball between two defenders and Sanchez did well to round the keeper and bury it. Messi capped of a great 2nd half as he sent Dani Alves through alone with a nice through pass that Alves, alone versus the keeper, unselfishly crossed back to Messi who tapped it underneath the sprawling defenders legs. Three away goals all but ensures Barcelona's advancement to the round of eight.

Lyon 1-0 Apoel Nicosia
Didn't watch this game but saw the highlights. Lyon dominated the match from what I can tell & a deflected Alexandre Lacazette shot was the difference. Apoel still have a chance in this tie as Lyon might find it difficult to repeat this performance in Cyprus.

Reminder of tomorrow's fixtures:

Zenit St Petersburg vs. Benfica - 12 PM
AC Milan vs. Arsenal - 2:45 PM

AC Milan came out ready to win. Robinho looked ALOT better today, Boateng looked good coming back from injury. Glad Seedorf got off the pitch early. Ibrahimovic seemed to be in the perfect spot for every goal, especially the two Robinho goals he assisted.

Ibra: 2 assists, 1 PK goal... Not too shabby. Here's to hoping they embarrass them on their own turf in a couple of weeks.

Apart from relegation there is literally nothing that could happen to Arsenal that would be remotely embarrassing at this point.

No matter what happens to Arsenal this year, they can always point to Liverpool and Chelsea. Those two have distanced themselves from the pack when it comes to embarrassments this year.

Looks like it's up to Chelsea now to bear the flag of England alone in the Champions League. Let's see how long that lasts

And on cue..Napoli scores to level the match at 1-1.

Nice finish..but dear lord my Blues are a train wreck on the back line.

EDIT: 2-1 Napoli. The meatheads are right...soccer does suck.

Two late goals were the difference in yesterdays games

FC Basel 1 - 0 Bayern Munich
Marseille 1 - 0 Inter

Basel have been a nuisance to all in the UCL this year. It surely helped them that Bayern have been playing awful altogether the past few weeks as they now sit third in the Bundesliga table one point behind Borussia Monchengladbach (What a season they're having) and three points behind last years champions, Borussia Dortmund.

Marseille also played a hapless team of late in Inter. Internazionale sit seventh in Serie A and have only scored a goal (albeit four) in one game this whole month (scoreless in four straight now).

Looks like the UCL finalists from two years ago have gone nowhere but downhill since.
