UEFA Champions League (Official Thread)

Brandao had a nice little push off on Lucio to get to the ball too, but it went uncalled and he buried the winner. Inter were awful across both legs so I can't really say they deserved to progress through.

Lucio is one of those defenders that will get knocked around a bit and have it go uncalled based on his physical style of play. Had it been Samuel taking the knock, it may have gotten called. Needless to say, AC Milan's path to the Final just got easier with Inter being knocked out. (something tells me they'd try matching the two Milan's up for a Derby showdown)

Samuel was left to sprawl unsuccessfully in an attempt to block the shot. The replay was great because as Brandao scored you can see Stankovic fall to his knees in despair. You have to love the emotions of these big knockout round games.

Especially considering that may very well have been Stankovic's last appearance in a CL game for Inter.

Inter really miss having Eto'o this season considering how Forlan has been downright awful for them. Sneijder apparently being hurt all season hasn't helped either but they've been inexcusably atrocious this season. Mourinho going to Madrid just destroyed this club.

I recommend watching the Bayern Munich-FC Basel game if you want to be entertained. The Inter-Marseille game will only get your hopes up at the start and then put you to sleep until the end.

Sorry for potentially spoiling anything for you. Even though you see the lop-sided score of the Bayern-Basel match, I highly recommend watching it. German football at it's finest.

I absolutely agree. Eto'o won't be in Russia very long... Some major club is bound to go after him sooner than later.

On the Forlan topic, I really think this is a guy who is a product of the exposure of the World Cup. He had a wonderful World Cup, which caught the eye of quite a few clubs. His biggest issue is finding his role on the squad. Too many times, you see him just sitting around because he doesn't know if he wants to stay forward and only attempt shots on goal (which is his strength), or to move into the midfield and help with the possession game. Either way, he just doesn't belong on Inter. Too many question marks in the midfield are making it difficult for any forward to find success in front of goal (see Giampaolo Pazzini).

No worries..I actually don't mind knowing the outcome. Hell, I'll rewatch a match several times if it is replayed.

I love Bundesliga, atho my favorite club is..uh...struggling. And that is being kind...1FCK!!! They are wretched, but many years ago when I was young I was on one of their U14 development teams in Kaiserslautern. Those were the days.

Basel never had a chance...and I look forward to watching later this week.

Today's First half results:

Chelsea 1-0 Napoli (Napoli lead 3-2 on aggregate)
'28 Drogba

Real Madrid 1-0 CSKA Moscow (Real Madrid lead 2-1 on aggregate)
'26 Higuain

Some very interesting first halves to say the least. Chelsea have dominated possession, but have been susceptible multiple times to the counter-attack which Napoli have exploited without reward. Drogba put the Blues up 1-0 on the night with a great diving header off a Ramires cross from the left wing. Chelsea really took a hold of the game after the goal and looked very positive going into the half, creating a few close chances at the end.

Madrid started out awful as CSKA had a couple breaks in the first few minutes that led to saves from Casillas, but after that they were in complete control. Higuain put Madrid up 1-0 with a tap in off a low cross from Kaka' who had been unmarked on the left side of the box. Madrid have created numerous other chances but haven't pounced on them.

If you can get to a television, I highly recommend going to Fox Soccer Chanel to watch the Chelsea-Napoli game as it is now in Extra Time. It's been nothing short of an amazing game thus far. Back and forth, chances galore.

John Terry headed in a Frank Lampard cross early in the 2nd half to go ahead on aggregate on the away goals rule, but Gokhan Inler responded minutes later with a fantastic half-volley to put Napoli back up. Chelsea were awarded a penalty late in the 2nd half as Dossena handled a header on goal & Lampard calmly tied the aggregate at 4-4. A flurry of chances at the end from both sides were thwarted as the game became increasingly opened up and we find ourselves currently in Extra Time at Stamford Bridge.

Branislav Ivanović scores on the last kick of the first period of Extra Time. Remarkable game, simply remarkable. Looks like it's going to be a crazy 15 minutes at Stamford Bridge now that Napoli HAVE to score.

Chelsea win 4-1 in Extra Time & advance to the quarterfinals 5-4 on aggregate over Napoli. What an incredible 2nd leg game, one of the best I've ever seen. Branislav Ivanović was the hero scoring the winner on the last kick of the first period of Extra Time. Drogba, who just turned 34 only a few days ago, was brilliant throughout as he scored the opener and set up the winner. You have to tip your hats to Chelsea, who came in down 3-1 on aggregate and put together a wonderful 120 minutes to advance.

Real Madrid romped CSKA Moscow 4-1 with two Cristiano Ronaldo 2nd half goals and one from Benzema on top of Higuain's first half tap in. They advance to the quarterfinals 5-2 on aggregate.

The final eight remaining in the UCL are AC Milan, Benfica, Barcelona, APOEL Nicosia, Marseille, Bayern Munich, Real Madrid & Chelsea.

YESSS!!! Thanks so much for these updates..I'm traveling on business this entire week and today didn't have a chance to even stream the match or monitor the stats or anything. I am SOOOO happy the Blues managed to advance and can't wait to watch the action this weekend. I only hop my DVR picked up the extra time.

My day just got better...WHOO HOOO. Chles is probably a dead club walking in the next round..but so glad to know they can still play with character and heart rather than just giving up.:biggrin::biggrin::biggrin::biggrin::biggrin::biggrin:

EDIT: Meh...can't give you greenies until I spread some more around first....
