UEFA Champions League (Official Thread)

Is Pato hurt?

Chelsea got their away goal last night

Abate, Silva, and Pato are all out with injuries. Silva didn't look fit in the Roma match and quickly came off the pitch. Here's to hoping he'll (all 3 for that matter) be ready for the 2nd leg.

Cech came up huge a couple of times, and it was great to see Torres playing with confidence (and delivering on the big stage). Big game at the Bridge next week looming, but you can't ask for a much better start.

The Milan-Barca match today should be scintillating...

Milan has to go straight at Barca's defense. Pique has been atrocious most of the season & Puyol has lost a step or two now that he's gotten older. They're very vulnerable on set pieces as well. Left wing is another golden opportunity considering Dani Alves is a right winger and not a right back anymore because he clearly can't defend for diddly poo.

Need Boateng to perform some more magic like this:

Looks like Alexis Sanchez is going to be coming from the right wing with Dani Alves. Interesting that Isaac Cuenca isn't even on the bench, he would've been a perfect sub considering that Cristian Tello, who's been nothing but marvelous since coming from the B team, is a left winger. Tello is going to be a star, he has so much speed & quickness and unlike Pedro, he can easily take on defenders and beat them.

Someone on Milan needs to expose Mascherano on the left side. Otherwise, it could be a long day.

They will probably put Puyol on the left & Mascherano in the middle like they did on Wednesday when Adriano got hurt. Needless to say, it didn't work very well. Barcelona's right side is there weakest with Alves always being caught out of position because he goes forward so often & virtually never trails back leaving the whole wing wide open. Seen it happen so many times now it doesn't surprise me anymore.

If Milan can somehow manage to start a few counter attacks, I like their chances. Puyol is very slow on counter attacks, but when he's back in defense, he's a brick wall.

Muntari REALLY impressed me with his play against Roma on Saturday. But he's much more a work in progress than El Shaarawy is currently, but the future is bright with these two in the attacking midfield. Muntari has a CANNON for a right foot.

EDIT: I swear, Puyol and Clay Guida were separated at birth.

Looks like the field conditions have been AC Milan's best weapon thus far in the game. Both teams should have already scored. Once Barcelona get comfortable, they're very difficult to get the ball from. Milan have done pretty well in forcing turnovers in the final third and I really think that is where they're going to create there best chance to score.

Update on the other game being played. Turn away if you don't want to see the score of the Marseille-Bayern Munich game.

Bayern Munich are up 1-0 on a 44th minute goal from Mario Gomez off a Robben through ball. It's all setting up nicely for a Bayern Munich-Real Madrid semi-final.

I like the support Seedorf is providing to the defense. Ambro is all over the place, which worries me.

Would like to see Boateng get bumped back in place of Seedorf eventually, and bring on El Shaarawy at CAM.
