Troy Smith Saga has begun.....

The Bucknuts article does shed some light on things. Sounds like they at least understand their positions.

JT knows that he has an unhappy young man. This might end up being a good thing for the team and TS.

One of the quates that I noticed was in a discussion about being in a fight last year outside the dorms over a girl .....
and they asked Smith if he thought that one incident hurt him .....
there was an answer that could be taken two or three ways .....

the answer was ... not just that one incident, but maybe several ....

was that several similar incidents,
or that incident coupled with a few other incidents outside the team ...
or several incidents inside the team ....
or that one and MOC .....
or a combo of the above,
or all of the above

????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????

we are missing some of the puzzle pieces,
and we will never hear the real truth

Smith is gone at the end of the year ....

there were already rumors that
Boeckman would challenge for the starter spot next year,
and speculation that that would make Smith #3

Smith will pack up his strings and transfer .... IMHO

so we may take another this year, or two next year
perhaps a grey shirt this year ...........

IMHO this does not belong in the press ....
either stay and talk to Tress behind closed doors,
or go and just disappear, and let your play at the next scholl do the talking.

My hope is that Troy ends up being a success story no matter what he decides.

Troy get a degree, stay away from MoC and other negative people.

I hope this board and other O-State fans continues to support this young Buckeye as this is a kid from a tough area of C-town which just so happens to be our Top pipeline of late.

I think that everyone needs to step back and take a deep breath and think about the stupid things we all did as kids that seemed great ideas at the time

Mouth runs faster than brain -->Chronic for most kids I know

Why should we expect him to be any different

I had to leave last night, and now I come in this morning to find this thread has degenerated into a semi-logical discussion. Damn.

You people that are criticizing Smith need to back off. The kid is frustrated. He didn't say anything that was all that bad. Yeah, maybe he should of talked to the coach first, but guess what was top on his priority list as soon as finishing this interview? For crying out loud, if you thought you were a better player you would be wanting more playing time too. And he better think he is a better player, or he won't get anywhere...

Okay- I missed the BN article... but anyway...

On 1460 this morning they paraphrased Ted Ginn Sr as saying that, " you shouldn't read too munch into what Troy said, he was frustrated Tuesday because he was used as a wide receiver in practice."

That probably was where we missed the emphasis of his 'complaints'... not that he was so much frustrated to be a back up, but that he was worried he wouldn' t be a QB anymore.

All this time I've been wondering why NCAA Football 2005 has Troy Smith transferring out of OSU after the 2004 nearly every year if I didn't play him.

2 places he transferred to was interesting...Bowling Green and Akron.

2 things happened in this situation

1. Smith reneged on his promise to Tressel to be patient and allow Zwick to be the starter until he works his way out of 1st string

2. Tressel reneged on his promise to Troy that he would see playing time early on.

either/or

in any case, you know Mo isn't all roses about his thoughts on OSU and I'm sure it's getting into Troy's head a bit.

i have nothing against smith....and can understand his frustration...what i cant stand is posters who keep arguing that he should get 50% of the snaps and that tressel is screwing him....

i hope zwick is so good that he is gone after next year and that smith plays a year and is drafted as well.....

I understand his frustration, welcome to D-1 college football. The great thing is that he can transfer out if he doesn't like it. Whos to say that next year Zwick gets hurt and a slot opens up? I hope he doesn't pull a Sammy Maldonaldo.

Wow! I guess I should just blindly agree with everything Tressel says and does because he's won quite a few national championships? I guess you can't disagree with JT or the consensus on this board ... at all ... or you get attacked.

FWIW, I agree with JT's coaching decision to go with Zwick. I'm excited about his potential. But, I do not agree with his decision to publicly state that the QB battle was open (and he did say that - any attempt to prove otherwise is futile, because it just ain't true). I can only assume, because none of us can know otherwise, that he told TS that the battle was "open" as well. The battle was clearly not open. JZ went into Cincy and Marshall and did a serviceable job (although not spectacular, as he still has a lot to learn) - and he locked down the job. Obviously TS could not have done a thing on the field to change that, and he wasn't given an opportunity to do so anyway.

So, maybe he should have stated publicly that the job is Zwick's to lose, and the TS would be given an opportunity if Zwick faltered. But, he didn't say that, and now he has to deal with an angry backup. That is his mistake, and I'm not afraid to call him on it.

Prediction: I'll be called ignorant and a fucking moron for having this opinion, even though I've backed it up - but who cares, because I went against the consensus.
