Troy Smith Saga has begun.....

hahahahahaaha BIATCHabutuka, I knew someone was going to say that !!!
hahaha I know those are the facts but BIATCHABUTUKA , even Bush later claimed to of regreted saying those words cuz they came back to bite him in the arse in forms of jokes. That was the point Smarmy !!! My point was that people say things, the press and us fans sometimes take it literally when in fact circumstances change and evaluations may have been made in "under game circumstances" in practice scrimmages and/or things just may have changed all together and Coach Tressel just .... Ok I have not seen enough I am going to go with my gut..... either way its Coach Tressels decision and I think he is best qualified to make that choice don't you "BIATCHabutuka" ?? hahaha Smarmy! :P

Well, there's 10 minutes of my life I'll never get back after reading this thread :(

Seriously, no coach can win. When Cooper watched them both in practice and couldn't pick someone, everyone hated the 2 QB system. When Tressel picks a guy and sticks, the SM or TS are the most popular guys on the team, and people are pissed they "don't get their shot" despite the fact they get their shot every day in practice.

The racist argument was used then (late 90s) too, accusing the coach of not playing Jackson, or playing him, because he was black, yada, yada, yada. Conspiracy theorists abound on Sucknuts about it then and now.

It was old then, it is even older now. Be done with it...it gets no one anywhere.

Listen To The Comments

I rarely chime in on this off the field stuff, but when listening to his interview on The Ozone Smith didn't sound like a "all for me" kind of guy. Just a back-up wanting a chance to help the team... and wondering why he's not getting the call when Justin flounders a little. He did nice things when he came in against Cincinnati so I guess he's hanging his hat on that. But to me he seemed resigned to accepting the position coach's judgement... and the notion of transferring was a hypothetical posed by the reporter. JT's pretty smart... he'll always do what it takes to win. Honestlly, isn't that the only thing we really care about?

Probably the biggest issue was that the coaches did not deliver the message to Troy in person so he feels dissed. :)
Well if troy feels dissed he needs to take it like a man and approach the coaching staff about it privately and iron things out. Instead of handling it like he seems to be starting to. The coaches owe Troy Smith nothing, they dont even owe him an explanation for lack of playing time if they dont see a reason to give him one. The fact that his only goal seems to be getting to the NFL and not obtaining a degree should say alot about things. He talked about feeding his family from going to the league, newsflash MR . Smith, very few people actually have extended careers in the NFL. I think the avg career length is something like 2 years, so instead of worrying strictly about the NFL, I think he needs to worry about getting his degree and if he is good enough to be in the NFL, he will be.

"
Maybe I wasn't hearing the same thing out of Tressel's mouth before the first two games that everyone else was. I believe he said that the qb race was still open even though he had named Zwick the starter. But isn't it now clear that Zwick was the starter from day one? Isn't is now clear that Smith was (and for lack of a better word) "used" to help motivate Zwick?"

Every position is always open for competition. It is just a matter of the 2nd string player stepping up big time and taking it away from the starter.

"He did nice things when he came in against Cincinnati so I guess he's hanging his hat on that."

He had 1 count them 1 good pass to Holmes for the TD, other then that he handed the ball off that entire drive to Pittman, and had 3 and outs the rest of the drives he was in for. So if he is hanging his head on 1 pass then he is definitely having delusions of grandeur, because that 1 pass albeit nice, wasnt anything you could substantially use as an arguement for why Smith isnt playing.

3yards, i'd appreciate if you'd keep posters from calling me a "fucking idiot", "moron", using racially derogatory terms like "fucking arabs"...that would be grand, and i thank you for it. i'm not stirring any pot, i'm just laughing at the mob mentality here that enjoys "piling on". i'm done with it. over and out.

Well quit acting like a "fucking idiot" and "moron" then. As for piling on, you should be used to "smear the queer" by now...

It is being either stated or implied that JT is not playing Smith for one of three very different reasons. Either 1) Zwick is the better QB, 2) he is misjudging the talent of the two players involved, or 3) he believes Smith deserves to play more but is purposely denying him the opportunity for some reason.

I am with the crowd that believes #1 to be the case - and I think that is the majority. But I will concede that none of us have sat through much in the way of practice and our primary reason for supporting this argument is our faith in JT and his staff.

If #2 is the case it certainly wont be the first time a Coach has misjudged talent. But I don't think clowns on call in shows (1460 has had some real doozies today) or message boards calling for a change are going to have much of an influence. If folks want to make the argument that Smith is better have at it. But there is virtually zero evidence - other than heresay from observers of his accuracy and arm strength - to support your argument. On the other hand, where are the players who have struggled on the bench only to get their chance and show up the starter, thus proving JTs incompetence in judging talent?

As for #3, I am still waiting for any argument whatsoever to suggest why JT would be motivated to do such a thing. Smith himself, as early as this fall, said he was being treated fairly. As a former manager I am hard pressed to recall an employee whose opinion of themselves was not a bit higher than that shared by the world - primarily because their evaluation of themselves was based on what they thought they were capable of, not what they had demonstrated. Smith is like any other athlete who KNOWS he could get it done if given the chance. That is not remotely the same as being treated unfairly - but it does lead to dissatisfaction.

If I could point to any post in the thread I would choose that of Carmen Ohio. A lot of folks are jumping on Troy unfairly and creating a situation that simply does not need to exist. There is no 'saga' other than the one a reporter has instigated and we have promptly jumped on with both feet.

Yea, that wouldn't have pissed me off if I was TS. Nothing like being used in front of the media by your head coach.

football is a team game, but there are individual concerns within this framework. most players don't speak out if they KNOW the player ahead of them is better. have you ever heard harlen jacobs speak out? what about john hollins? uh, NO. why? i can tell you it is not because the are the ultimate team players. they KNOW they have guys ahead of them who are better. smith has a guy ahead of him who he thinks he is better than. period.

Or it might be that there is no concern amongst the press about Jacobs or Hollins. The press feeds off of the fact that TS and JZ were considered neck and neck.

So they were neck and neck. Who cares. The fact that JZ started the game would show that he was ahead of TS at the begining of the season. Remember, Troy was put in the game after Zwick was on fire in the Marshall game. If Tressel had it in for Troy and refused to give him a shot, why would he take Zwick out after he was lighting up Marshall in the first quarter?
