Game Thread tOSU @ Virginia Tech, Sep 7 2015 @ 8pm ET, ESPN

I wouldn't go that far. Their defense gave up over 20 ppg last year...their 2004 and 2005 defenses gave up under 13 ppg, and their 2006 defense gave up under 11 ppg while holding seven opponents to 7 or less points including four shutouts. Their defense last year also gave up 30+ at home in consecutive games (Duh U and BC). I'm not all that concerned...
Stand corrected I should've said "potentially" because they do have the returning pieces to be special but now it's a matter of doing it. We win but i think we win because of our defense and field position.

Starting to get a lil nervous for this one. For one thing, I think Tech is going to be a 9-10 win team this year. Beating a good team at home is never easy, obviously. And then I also think they pose some matchup difficulty for us---they have one of the better defensive lines in the country. I don't think we can flat dominate them up front. And we will only have 1 proven wide receiver in this game. Thomas will make some plays, but if they match up Fuller on him, that is a matchup that could go either way.

I think JT needs to start this game. His skill set is more in line with what we need from the QB in this particular game in terms of a running threat and getting the ball out quick and accurately on short passes to unproven pass catchers.
JT's redemption game  drop 4 tds passing and another 2 rushing

VIRGINIA TECH RUNNING BACK SHAI MCKENZIE SUSPENDED FOR OHIO STATE GAME

Virginia Tech is welcoming the national champs to their house Labor Day Night, but the Hokies will be without their third-leading rusher from a season ago.

Shai McKenzie, who rushed for seven yards and one touchdown against Ohio State in his team's 35-21 victory at Ohio Stadium last September, was shelved for next month's rematch the school announced Friday.

McKenzie was suspended indefinitely after getting arrested in March for "contributing to a delinquency of a minor. Friday, it turned into a one-game suspension barring any mishaps. From The Roanoke Times' Andy Bitter:

The sophomore had been suspended from all team activities since March. He appeared back on the roster Friday at the start of preseason practice after meeting with athletic director Whit Babcock, head coach Frank Beamer and running backs coach Shane Beamer.

The Hokies put a disclaimer on his reinstatement: he can return to game action in Week 2 against Furman "as long as he maintains good standing and conducts himself in a manner we expect from our student-athletes," the school said in a release.

Last month, he was sentenced to 15 days of house arrest and 50 hours of community service after being found guilty on one charge of contributing to the delinquency of a minor, a misdemeanor. The charge was related to having consensual sex with a child 15 years of age or older.

McKenzie had surgery to repair a torn ACL in October, but had jumped to the top of the depth chart prior to the injury. He ran for 269 yards and three touchdowns in his freshman campaign during 2014.

And there you have the one thing that's skulking around in the shadows when I think of this game--two in a row that were won despite awful turnovers that would normally be disastrous. Yes, a powerful team was able to overcome those mistakes, but it was at the end of the season at the peak of their game. I hope it's been corrected in the last seven months. Just find the combination of rust and the question of whether dropsi-itis have been exorcised to be a little concerning--especially added to playing in a hostile, emotionally over-amped environment.

Then again, a repeat of hanging 59-0 on the home guys wouldn't shock either. Who knows what this team has grown into--we sure didn't know last year.

I wasn't going to go there, but the silver lining is that Corey can't drop 4 or 5 passes this time.

we lost a few weapons and that hurts. I think we still get 31. Could hit 40 but the only way I see that is a pick 6. My guess is 31-10. Everyone is talking about their d agains our o. Which will be a battle. But no one is talking about our d that held oregon to 20 and their grossly incompetent o.

I just took it for granted that we'll win this game -- largely b/c of our D and their O -- and thus the conversation is mostly about how many points we'll win by.
I suppose that's rather arrogant, but nothing about their offense scares me before RBs start getting suspended.
I think JT can put up 40, if a deep threat emerges as a starting WR in Fall I think Cardale can put up 50.

By the end of the season our running game was off the charts. Our pass D was excellent. No team improved as much as Ohio State did from start to finish of last season. This will be a completely different and improved team than what Va Tech faced last year.

Ok so I'm getting confused... There was a recent Hokie article posted in the last few days stating how they're going to do special things this season (directly from their defensive players) and they mentioned that we have been disrespecting them for a while now? To add on that I keep getting texts from my Hokie fan saying we are giving them bulletin board material?

I truly think Tech is making all this shit up just to somehow find a edge. My buddy gave a example of Holmes saying tech didn't have the best fans, and then he stated Taylor Decker saying we would've beat them 9 out of 10 if we prepared well for them (can't find this quote)

Bottom line I'm getting tired of tech and they're yapping defense. I would give anything to burry this team and end their season before it even freaking starts... I'm tired of their defense opening their mouths (particularly dadi) and how he knows they're going to be special.

If we are saying stuff like "tech is going to get steamrolled" then whatever but to me it seems tech (fans/players) are stretching to create some sort of edge

Me thinks the VT team knows that they'll be facing a totally different team that is coming in for blood and are doing whatever they can to get even more fired up.

Honestly, who gives a shit what Hokie is saying. They caught lightning in a bottle last year. They caught tOSU the week after Navy with a young ass team. The same young Buckeye team, that by the end of the year was still making rookie mistakes with a 3rd string QB yet still stomping motherfuckers out on their way to a NC.

Urban don't play when revenge is in play.

Hokiepacalypse 2015. RIP Blacksburg.
