Game Thread tOSU @ Virginia Tech, Sep 7 2015 @ 8pm ET, ESPN

Bottom line I'm getting tired of tech and they're yapping defense...I'm tired of their defense opening their mouths (particularly dadi) and how he knows they're going to be special.

I expect their defense to be decent/good. What I find fascinating in all this is that I've yet to see one article or person (aside from our brief visitor) say a word about their Offense (which signs point to being mediocre at best). It's going to take a complete 9-sub-team game to win this game, and unfortunately for VTech, it appears they only have 1-sub-team that's worth a shit.

Ok so I'm getting confused... There was a recent Hokie article posted in the last few days stating how they're going to do special things this season (directly from their defensive players) and they mentioned that we have been disrespecting them for a while now? To add on that I keep getting texts from my Hokie fan saying we are giving them bulletin board material?

I truly think Tech is making all this [Mark May] up just to somehow find a edge. My buddy gave a example of Holmes saying tech didn't have the best fans, and then he stated Taylor Decker saying we would've beat them 9 out of 10 if we prepared well for them (can't find this quote)

Bottom line I'm getting tired of tech and they're yapping defense. I would give anything to burry this team and end their season before it even freaking starts... I'm tired of their defense opening their mouths (particularly dadi) and how he knows they're going to be special.

If we are saying stuff like "tech is going to get steamrolled" then whatever but to me it seems tech (fans/players) are stretching to create some sort of edge
What team starts the season by saying they are going to suck?

The fact is that VT doesn't have the offense to hang with OSU unless the Buckeyes have a really bad day.

With the beginning of fall camp, I am getting more and more pumped for this game. As a good pump up I would recommend watching last season on youtube. I know many of us have rewatched the Oregon and Bama game many times, and some have rewatched the Wisky and MSU games a few times, a few of us have stooped so low as to watch the ped state and ttun game once or twice. I've even re-watched or watched for the first time a bunch of the good bowl games. The Miss St/ Ga Tech game is a fun watch. The talking heads actually use 'Miss State' and 'SEC' interchangeably during long stretches of the game, saying things like 'And there's the SEC with a first down' or 'The SEC really needs a touchdown here'. I've never heard such blatant cheer leading for a conference in the past. I almost got so sick of it that i turned the game off... then I remembered how it ends and laugh as I continue watching.

I would recommend starting at Navy and watching the unedited version of the season in order leading up to Sept 3rd, when the first game of the 2016 season kicks off. You get to relive the highs and lows. Make sure to get the commentary because it is great to listen to the pundits (read shitheads) discuss our playoff chances.

I wouldn't go that far. Their defense gave up over 20 ppg last year...their 2004 and 2005 defenses gave up under 13 ppg, and their 2006 defense gave up under 11 ppg while holding seven opponents to 7 or less points including four shutouts. Their defense last year also gave up 30+ at home in consecutive games (Duh U and BC). I'm not all that concerned...

Having watched every VT game in full last year (often an extremely painful endeavor), I can assure you that the PPG allowed statistic is heavily skewed. I can't tell you how many times the offense turned the ball over deep in their own territory, put up several consecutive 3 and outs, etc. The defense would do an amazing job of holding the other team to FG attempts, but ultimately they would wear down and give up some points.

Now of course, points on the board count the same no matter where they come from. But make no mistake about it, the defense is legit and carried the team every week.

First of all, every team in this history of sports finds any motivation possible to get hyped up and focused on a big game. Second of all, if you even spend 5 minutes scrolling through this thread the majority of the discussion is based on if OSU will score "only" 30 points, or if they'll still put up 45+ with some starters missing. I can promise you that points will not come easily, and if tOSU actually does break 40 then they will have played one hell of a game and most likely scored a few TDs on D/ST. While I realize that tOSU has come a long way since last September, this time around it's in Blacksburg and I really hope that Urban has them practicing silent counts because they won't be able to hear shit.

Wisconsin (#4 total defense) and Alabama (#12 total defense) had "legit" defenses as well, and Ohio State scored 59 and 42 on them, respectively. Yes, each game had a defensive TD, but that's still a Hell of a lot of offensive production against two defenses that were supposed to be elite.

September 2015 is a long way from September 2014.

I just looked up some stats from the game in which you gave up the most points last year (BC loss at home). You gave up 626 yards and 33 points, and yet turned the ball over but once. Sort of flies in the face of your argument...

Well, it was 368 yards allowed, not 626, but still not a good effort. Now that I'm looking at the stats again, 14 of those points and 125 yards came on two big plays. Furthermore, that one turnover that VT had was a fumble on a kickoff return that gave BC the ball on our own 10 yard line and the defense held them to a FG.

We've definitely had our share of bad games with a lack of focus but that's what you get from a highly inconsistent team. I'm just saying that at our best our defense is capable of playing at a very high level and focus will not be an issue on September 7th. However, tOSU is obviously loaded with talent and some times you need to also rely on catching some breaks as well to have a chance.

Yeah, I added the total and the rushing yardage...probably shouldn't post at 4:30 am right after waking up. Congrats. Your defense still allowed scores on seven drives.

Keep in mind that not only did we play you right after we played Navy, we still had the second greenest OL in the country and Barrett was only in his second start since the middle of his high school year (he also redshirted his first year at Ohio State). Despite at least one dropped TD pass, we still put up 327 yards and 21 points. If you think your defense is going to have the same success as last year, I suggest you ask the defenses of Wisconsin, Alabama, and Oregon.

Been to many Blacksburg games including multiple night games and I know just how loud Lane can get. However, you're talking about a team that plays in front of 108k most saturdays and when we play away in the B1G play in front of 80k (MSU), 108k (PSU) and 110k (scum) and then you add in having just played through the playoffs in the super dome in Nola' with a pro Alabama crowd and in Dallas for the NCG (100K) I assure you noise, crowd, and stage will not be a problem for this team.

What I can see happening is the hokies being the team that comes out too fired up, making mistakes, taking penalties such as personal foul late hits, and blowing assignments. If there is one team that needs to worry about the stage and the energy it is with the home school not our buckeyes. Go through and read my posts in this thread I give tech more credit than anyone on this board (particularly the defense) but my message is I'm tired of the Hokie players and fans acting like OSU is talking trash because there hasn't been one shot fired from Columbus, Oh. If saying " you better be grinding because we're grinding" is considered trash talk then clearly tech is reaching for motivation because quite simply they know OSU has far more motivation in this match up than the hokies.

I do not expect 40 points but I wouldn't be shocked either if we were to accomplish it and if we do reach 40+ again I assure you we can do so without the help of special teams or turnovers. We worked Wisconsin/MSU/scUM/Alabama without special teams playing a role and turnovers (all of those defenses finished ahead of tech). Infact if not for 4 TO's in the NCG and horrendous field position against bama' it could've (should've) been a lot worse. We won big inspite of losing the turnover battle and field position battle.

I expect a lower scoring affair with our buckeyes proving too much and contrary to many buckeye fans here I expect our defense to control your offense and to set up great field position due to our punting advantage. I'll stick with 34-24
