2025 tOSU Recruiting Discussion

Winton Woods offensive tackle Raphael Greene confirmed to Eleven Warriors he’ll visit Ohio State on March 23 with several of his high school teammates. The 6-foot-6, 320-pound Greene has visited OSU twice as a recruit but hasn’t been on campus since last spring.

“Ohio State is a really good school and I’ve been up there before, this time when I go I really want to try and talk to as many coaches as I can,” Greene said. “Get them to know as much as they can about me. I already sort of have a relationship with coach (Justin) Frye, but I’m trying to build more of a relationship this time around.”

OSU has had success recruiting Winton Woods, landing alums such as Miyan Williams, Jerron Cage and most recently, Jermaine Mathews. Greene is not your typical Ohio prospect, as he moved to Cincinnati a few years ago from London, England. While he may not have the sentimental value one would have if he grew up cheering for OSU, Greene feels a connection to OSU because of the success past Winton Woods players have had with the Buckeyes.

“Since I’ve been in Ohio, Ohio State has been a big deal at my school. Especially with Jermaine and Miyan, of course we know all about them,” Greene said. “They bring out great players, and I am an Ohio State fan, it’s a really good school.”

Greene was a rugby player in London, then started playing high school football two years ago after his move.

Greene played right tackle in his first year at Winton Woods before moving to left tackle last year. And he might just be scratching the surface of the player he can become.

Have to love that he’s a former rugby player. Multi sport athletes are great for the OL, IMo. Whether they’re also wrestlers, basketball players, track or in this case rugby. Long way to go, but I can see OSU getting Greene in the end

I think the multi sport background is so overlooked by the recruitniks for football and especially on OL and DL. I have a background in wrestling so I'm partial to that, but wrestling teaches you leverage and body control like nothing else. That translates very well to football, especially on the line. But rugby is similar, I didn't play much but a dude that could scrum on the line? Heck yeah, give me that guy.

Speaking of Merritt, the 6-foot-3, 230-pound Georgia prospect narrowed down his recruitment on Tuesday, announcing a top 12 of Ohio State, Florida State, Notre Dame, North Carolina, Tennessee, Florida, Alabama, Clemson, Texas A&M, Colorado, USC and LSU.

Well, you can get the prettiest girl in the school to commit to go with you to the prom, but.....very possible she could be swayed by another swain (see what I did here?). Sometimes better to take a less desireable girl, but know that she's going to actually go with you as your date. At least none of these QBs are from Florida, as those are fickle as heck. Three great choices, which ones are 'stayers'? OK Coach Day, time to earn the big bucks.

OHIO STATE

Christopher Burgess

Christopher Burgess

The Buckeyes are one of the Midwest programs with a strong national footprint. So, it was no surprise that they came up a lot in our talks with recruits. Class of 2025 four-star safety and Ohio State commit
Jontae Gilbert
was at the event. He mentioned several programs are trying to flip him from the program.

Jordon Davison
, the No. 1 running back in the country, is high on Ohio State. So are a pair of talented defensive ends – Georgia four-star
London Merritt
and Chicago four-star
Christopher Burgess
.
