2025 tOSU Recruiting Discussion

I was thinking about the '25 class and all the departures we have from last years team. While the cupboards are far from bare, this class has a real opportunity for meaningful PT. My top 5 candidates for immediate PT outside Portal guys are (not overall potential, just guys that could contribute right away):

1. Riley Pettijohn - Dude is already built like a college LB and on top of immense talent, he has great instincts. This is not simply said because he is a 5*, there is an opportunity at LB for real minutes and I haven't been as excited about a LB commitment since McMillan.
2. Devin Sanchez - I know we are still loaded at CB but this kid is an unreal talent that will force his way onto the field. He has been locked in with the program and getting ready before he even publicly committed, so he has a jump to the learning curb on top of insane talent, size and a natural feel for the position.
3. Zion Grady - Looking back at DE depth beyond Curry/Jackson, the depth looks fairly sparse. Grady is a legit talent and built ready to come in if he puts in the work.
4. Lamar "Bo" Jackson - Insanely talented and with Judkins gone, the opportunity is there. Depends on his rehab from injury but we could see early PT here if he is in full form and can block.
5. Faheem Delane - You can't teach size and his athleticism at safety. Just kept kind of quiet in his recruitment but he is going to push our other safeties for PT that don't have the last name of Downs.
6. Honorable Mention: TSC has to be listed. If anything happens to Sayin, TSC could very likely be the next man up. Physically he is pretty much there and talent in droves. Has to get up to speed at the college level though, so I hope he gets at least a year to learn the ropes.

I did not list Portal guys, but probably should mention them in the current recruiting climate. Onianwa probably lands the LT spot and Daniels fights for the RT spot (I think a mix of Tegra, Montgomery and/or Siereveld will also fight for the spot). Klare will definitely play a ton at TE and may be the outright starter, but expect Bennett and Thurman to be out there a lot. Donaldson will play plenty, but SWD will push him for reps behind Peoples. George has a lot of promise at DE, but might need a year of an adjustment to OSU-caliber ball.

Totals agree with all of this except that I thought SWD was gone?

Yeah I forgot he entered the portal, not sure if he can still come back but I can't see that he committed anywhere after entering the portal. Probably not happening, so all the more opportunity for the other RBs coming in (Donaldson, Jackson and West).

OK Coach Mick, the next load of beef is being delivered to your door. I'd like to place my order now, please.....three NFL worthy OTs, two WRs, one QB, etc....guess it's the new normal to see so many eschewing their last quarter of HS. Also appears to be new normal toward getting PT as a freshman. Carnel Tate was a high 4* coming out of HS, came in early, and played early, while Brandon Iness, a 5*, didn't show up until June, and fell behind Tate in the line-up. Probably something I'm missing, hole at the position, injury, whatever, but seeing 27 young 'uns show up in Buckeyeland, and rushing into the WHAC for 'winter conditioning' is heart warming. Always hopeful that the next generation of wunderkind players are in there somewhere. Hope springs eternal. Go Bucks!

After reading RB's post, a thought coalesced. With all the talent that came back, to win their Nati, some upcoming talent got jammed in between. Several/many portaled out, which left a larger gap for the incoming freshmen, and 'surviving' underclassmen to exploit. Am thinking that maybe more will rise to the two-deep that we think. Given the fresh eyes of the new coaches, whose vision is not tainted by what happened in the past, there might be some more upwards movement than we astute fans might think. Great opportunity for 'those who stayed'. Anyway, it will all work out in the end. Am especially anxious to see how the new OL coach works into the team, and hope his recruiting pitch is better received. Takes great ingredients to make a great cake.
