2023 tOSU Recruiting Discussion

Growing up on the west side of Columbus, more specifically Hilliard/New Rome/West Jefferson... I would love to hear more about the first part of your post. I am fascinated by local history and have always wondered about "Darby Dan" and his private airport.

Total side note that means nothing but I used to live in New Rome as well. Ok carry on

OK, homie, tell you what I remember. Met Mr. Galbreath through my father, believe at Rotary Club. Besides being owner of Steelers, had DD stables. Had a horse named Chataquay (sp?) that won the Kentucky Derby. Back then, businessmen would 'hire' football players to work at their places. Summer work, probably scheduled around campus workouts, etc. Don't know what they did, I was pretty young (and naive) then. No one had the tremendous weight facilities then, so - reputedly- would be carrying sacks of ? to one place, and then another in order to build muscle/bulk. Brain is fuzzy, but thought DD stables was south east of C'bus, around your stomping grounds. Right? My father was a Buckeye fanatic, as well, and he and his cronies (on Scarlet & Gray) would talk of those things during the round. Schoetenstein's then was what is now called a consolidator, which meant they had a massive yard sale (under a roof), that sold discount clothes, and week ends (Sundays) hoards of people would go to buy cheap clothes. Never knew about the airport, but most of the farms (bigger ones) have runways, so corporate owners can avoid land traffic. JG Boswell, has a lit runway with hanger for two jets, and two prop planes. Doesn't surprise me. As I said that was decades ago....

The story was the Football players painted the white board fence around all of DD farms. It may have been Urban legend but it was repeated by many in Columbus.

I heard that also….
I also heard that some players (one rumored to be John Brockington) who obtained their insurance license and sold term life insurance to the Galbraiths. It was a multi million dollar policy and the player made a substantial commission.
