2023 tOSU Recruiting Discussion

I remain skeptical.

Perhaps this unfair but this kid reminds me of that dork Nevin Shapiro who was a Cane fanboy.

Is there any evidence he is doing this with the support of the university?

Yeah, someone from a long term Columbus business family that funded the basketball arena at OSU is just like a currently imprisoned, convicted felon who ran a Ponzi scheme that rained cash, hookers and blow on "the U's" football players.

I don’t know much about this kid.
I will do some research.
But you are probably impressed by Hunter Biden.
Again I ask has this been green lighted by the school or is doing this on his own.
That’s what I need to know.

NIL can’t be approved by the university, as stated by @johnson2443. NIL deals are done independently, and this is no different than the foundation Tejas just set up and I believe aTm did the same. If The Foundation can secure a class close to what aTm just signed, I doubt anyone would have any complaints.

Bad take number 2.

1) Admit you don't know anything about what (or who) you are talking about.

2) Throw in Hunter Biden because you think it is some sort of comeback.

3) Ignore multiple post in this thread that said OSU CAN'T Greenlight this NIL Foundation.

Suggestion- Do your research before your next take

Heck, remember 'back in the day', when Dan Galbreath used to hire tOSU players to work at Darby Dan Stables. Met him once, but was never invited into the inner sanctum. Kinda sorta an early version of NIL, as the players did minimal work for decent pay. There's been a version of NIL for years, and has been perfected by the SEC. Two years ago, a player was benched because was treated to an 'impermissible meal' - whether it was at a white tablecloth restaurant or a Chili place. Now, that has become an added perq to tuition, room & board, books, and spending money. Plus coaching to take them to the NFL level. Not everyone will/be able to share equally, as the 'star' positions (QB, WR etc) will be given the lions share (for name recognition), and the obscure ones (OL, DL, LB etc) won't. Some sort of 'profit' sharing has got to occur, as what QB could get off their passes w/o the OL holding the DL away from him. Not sure how it's going to play out, what with the transfer portal is going to be full of players that will not only look to grab a NCAA championship ring, but who is going to 'pay' them the most, I've read the rumors of the Texas teams telling the coach they've got that next great CB in their pocket, but not certain that all of these teams won't follow the same blueprint. My crystal ball is a bit foggy, so can't see what the future holds, but from where I sit, there has been an epiphany shift, and I'm not entirely certain it's for the best. Sorry for the rant, but the above (and other) missives pulled this out of me. Maybe I'm too old fashioned/old school. Go Bucks!

I think the future of NIL is still foggy but it was needed and is good in the end for the players. The SEC didn't perfect something that's been around for generations. I think at this point it's hard to find a team that has won anything significant in CFB to not have a stain in their history, and the geography doesn't matter. I can see some type of payment structure being enacted jn the future, but The Foundation is a great step for OSU to keep up in the NIL game.
Any changes that have ever been made to sports are always met with discernment (usually by age) from those yearning for the past/nostalgia. I believe @jwinslow said it great when he mentioned in another thread that NIL is just bringing payments to light that were already happening in the dark. Fans love to be sanctimonious over their teams, and place blame on other teams and conferences, not realizing the recruits they're landing and wins their piling up are also done under the same questionable motives that other teams have done. It shouldn't be a surprise that the same teams have won NCs, appeared in the CFP and won their conferences almost yearly. It can't be that only Bama and the rest of the SEC have bagmen...

Growing up on the west side of Columbus, more specifically Hilliard/New Rome/West Jefferson... I would love to hear more about the first part of your post. I am fascinated by local history and have always wondered about "Darby Dan" and his private airport.
