2022 tOSU Recruiting Discussion

Tampering with HS kids may have been hard to control but it is nothing compared to today. Those kids saw boosters only on visits or in the local community.

Now we are talking about players who play against other college teams. They interface with those team's players in stadiums filled with their boosters. Conversations that compare NIL contracts will be legion. Opportunities to communicate that "we have a spot for you" will be abundant.

AuTX is right - we will know a lot more in a few years. But we may not recognize the landscape.

As I am always telling my friends who are in my age demographic - The good news is we'll be dead soon. You young pups enjoy the ride.

And BTW - another advantage of grabbing kids from the portal - they have shot their wad. You own them until they become a grad transfer candidate (assuming that is still in place).

I'm not an alarmist dealing with NIL/Transfer Portal nonsense maybe the impetus to push Day to the NFL.

Especially if we don't match what other schools are doing.

Outside of Tejas and Kentucky, I haven’t really seen any other booster groups step up and create the marketplace for kids to take advantage of.

Texas already has $10M contributed. Kentucky has the fund set-up but haven’t announced a committed amount yet.

More schools will latch onto these set-ups and create their own similar program that works within their rules/framework.

I think people are getting a little out in front of their skis here. It’d have been great if we coulda been ready with the fund like Texas was able to do, but I don’t see Bama, Georgia, LSU, etc. with their own funds ready to roll and they’re doing just fine.

Im not saying we don’t need to get moving….we do. But we are in the infancy and tOSU will be top notch once it figures out best path forward. Having the largest alumni base in US will pay dividends.

What a disaster this secondary cycle turned out to be, especially considering how badly they need playmakers back there. Your top 2 CB commits decommit and your miss on your top 2 safety targets. Yikes. And then your throw Stud's typical results at O line and you have the makings of fairly underwhelming class.

Yeah never good to lay an egg at two positions of need. The other positions are mostly stacked, but we really needed a strong OL and DB class... and we didn't.

Again I say with the back 7 … Coombs is not guaranteed to be back..that plays a huge roll in this …

I really think Day mighta screwed the pooch with the Knowles hiring without dropping the axe publicly or allowing the guy that’s leaving to announce he’s going to find another job…so now we have 11 coaches… and well no one knows which one is officially leaving Jan 2

Pretty much or even just Twitter. The down schools with rich Alumni like Texas, Tennessee etc will tamper Galore to get 4 or 5 star sitting on the bench of the Alabama's, Georgia's, Ohio State's of the world.

How hard is this?
Not very.
One impediment might be OSU’s fascination with controlling all marketing.

The 15 Fund — named after the fact that Kentucky was the 15th state admitted into the United States of America — is similar to Clark Field Collective, an NIL fund launched recently by University of Texas boosters and former Longhorns athletes. That fund was launched with an initial pledged commitment of $10 million; an initial pledge amount and list of business parties involved was not yet known for The 15 Fund.

Apparently Texas started with a $10M pot of NIL money.
