tOSU Recruiting Discussion

I think Texas A&M is the cautionary tale with NIL.

You can pay people to come, that's the easy part.

The difficult part is getting them to stay, and once they are there, go along with the program.

The easy transfer portal makes it a impossible situation.

Maybe OSU needs to take more 3 star projects in their recruiting class, so they have a steady base to fall back on.
The aTm argument is getting old, IMO, because there is more to the story. First off, Jimbo isn't a very good HC, that right there blows up any amount of talent you bring in. His staff is vastly overrated as well. Give Day and Knowles that Jimbo brought in, and I'm sure OSU would have had success with their '22 talent.
Your other points are spot on though, paying kids will get them, but won't keep them. But success can keep them.
And relying mainly on 3stars, puts OSU in Iowa/Wisky arena, putting the program's ceiling at winning the B1G every few years, and the best bowl game being the Rose bowl or sneaking into the CFP when it expands, but as an 11th or 12th seed. Are you happy with that? Because I sure as hell would not be

If they don’t want to be there ..taking or giving money neither works.

Obviously.

You have to use the right tool for the job, like anything else. Find out why they don't want to be there. What problem are they trying to solve by leaving? More money? playing time? Just home sick or is something going on with family back home? Then have solutions for each type of scenario.

Simple but not easy.

A&M dumped all of their money into the defensive front 7. They forgot to buy a offense. That's part of the problem as well.

Not sure if this has been brought up here, but the real "problem" is the universities getting all the proceeds from the football program while not being able to supply the athletes with money....fans/businesses pay the players and the university keeps all the revenue...pretty good deal for them.

Honestly, the real problem is that the OSU fans/businesses aren't in the business of offering money to HS recruits. We all know that the universities don't provide the money, so they're not in the equation. But the collectives were the ones who were supposed to be aiding the coaches in getting the best players. I know OSU fans want to point and laugh at the SEC teams essentially buying players, but they're also the same fans who are in utter frustration over losing many recruiting battles. Birm has even said on a podcast execs for Coca Cola in GA are meeting with recruits and just asking for a number from them and their family, and then making it happen. For all the talk of OSU's collectives, I have yet to see that type of aggression in getting recruits. And it's obvious aTm, Miami, Tenn, etc are doing the same, and even going after OSU's recruits 2wks before ESD, because they know that OSU can't match their financial offers.

I really need someone to explain to me in simple terms how the collective(s) work at OSU, at least those connected to the football program. I want to believe ones like that created by a certain trust fund kid (who shall not be named) are something more than just a conduit for him and his wife to hang around football players.

I was roundly shouted down long ago for questioning the Schmails kid running the primary NIL.

We need more qualified individuals involved.

We need to level the playing field and not be so arrogant as to think a kid from the south with opportunities at programs => then ours that are offering life changing money would choose OSU.

The stupid arrogance of anybody that thought this should tell you all about the intelligence and real world knowledge these dorks have.

We can survive one year but we need to get our sh&t together asap.

Soon star players from Ohio will opt out to southern programs for money. At that point we are screwed.

I'm with you there. But I've grown tired of so many blaming Day for players being lost to the SEC dropping bags. It's not his fault, and I'm sure if it was up to him, he'd just have them pay as much as he can and get all the talent on his roster. But his hands are tied.
And from what I've read(and those who know more, PLEASE correct me), the collectives raise money and deals for recruits. When recruits visit, they sit them down and tell them what they can offer them. Difference is, in the south they're just asking kids what they want and making it happen. That's a pretty big difference. And the southern schools are utilizing their big money donors similar to how the bag man was once used, but on a larger scale. OSU is playing catch up, and refusing to offer up front benefits, but telling them what they can offer once they sign. Another massive difference. Southern schools are saying what they can get the kids and their family's before they even sign, and then what they do once their enrolled, and I'm sure stat and PT incentives as well
