tOSU Recruiting Discussion

I think you’re still emotional from The Game, and looking for any way to say that scUM is better than OSU. Fans can’t have it both ways. Stud brought in the same type of projects you talk about and fans complained. OSU went after 5stars and got them, and now they’re complaining that they should have more projects. People hated Stud’s tactics, and now they envy them. Similar to how people had the pitchforks out for Urban Meyer his last few years, and now want him back. Losses make fans lose all types of common sense.

This isn’t solely directed at you, but OL is literally the most difficult position to project from HS to college. ScUM has had a number of Army All Americans that hardly saw the field and some 3stars that were stalwarts. OSU has done the same. Harry Miller was a 5star who never panned out, but a 3star like Dewand Jones did.

Also, Hairball has a run focused team and constructs and OL in that image. Day prefers a spread, passing scheme, and that shows in how he constructs his OL. Also, Frye is in his first year, let’s give the guy more than a year, he did damn good job at UCLA with guys who would be most likely backups at OSU.
I am not saying TTUN is better at all, and in fact I feel the opposite. Our coaches need to coach up to the quality of our players. That is what I am saying. However, TTUN is hitting sweet spots on us in certain ways, that is giving them some advantage.

TTUN got lucky with some of their players. But looking at their rankings, I can guarantee you that no one would trade our recruiting results. OSU lost, that’s it. It wasn’t due to the OL this year, more so than it was due to bad playcalling. Bad playcalling has been OSU’s Achilles heel all year, too many cute plays outside instead punching teams in the mouth. As opposed to scUM playing bully ball and running teams over.

Day doesn’t believe in bully ball, blocking TE, running QBs or shorter mauling guards.

Jeremy Ruckert TE says hello… guy had great hands and of course was underutilized.
Ruckert was one of the most talented TEs in OSU history, and he was nothing more than an extra OL. Let’s be honest, Stover was the only TE that was actually a weapon in the offense in forever. Matter of fact all off season everyone still joked if this was the year that OSU used the TE

Cmon Day is run and shoot. He wants pass blocking and te. And did you notice Fryar played guard Saturday.
Dobbins also ran for 2k under Day as well…
Day was also 1 play from an NC in one of the most balanced high powered offenses every for OSU in 2019. And Sermon also set a single game rushing record under Day. Williams tied a single game TD rushing record under Day too. The offense is more balanced than fans want to give him credit for. This isn’t the 2018 offense

That’s Urbans offense …Day switched in 2021 to this offense.Stroud he handpicked to Run this fully operational Alabama crushing Death Star. It just ineffefective against the small band of scUM rebels.

It’s been Days vision of offense since he arrived in 2018. Fans bitched because Haskins passed too much that year, and then in 2019 Fields came aboard and the offense became more balanced with Dobbins as well no longer sharing Carries.
And I believe that Day picked Fields because of his dual threat ability as he had worked with Kapernick in San Fran who was also a DT QB.

And Day was pretty effective in ‘18 and ‘19, and would’ve been in 2020 as well. The DeathStar from Day also got over the Clemson obstacle that Urban couldn’t get by.

Reminders of the cooper era continue.....

Hamilton discussed his commitment with The Morning Journal on Sunday and candidly opened up on his experience being recruited by OSU.

“After going to Ohio State and seeing how they treated us, and it wasn’t on the good side of treating people,” he said. “My dad (Steve Hamilton) looked at me and told me to pull the trigger now… I think (Michigan) is the right fit for me.

“At Michigan, I always feel like I am at home. Even before I got the offer, I always felt like I was at home,” Hamilton said. “Going to Ohio State, I was kind of on edge on whether they were going to treat me good or are they going to treat me bad. As soon as I walked in the door, I could tell that there was not good energy.”

According to Hamilton, he felt like Ohio State took his recruitment for granted because he lives in the state.

“(Ohio State) did this to all of the in-state (recruits). They put us on the back burner and will wait until the last second, because they think they have us committed there if they offer, which I think is totally stupid. That is not how that works at all. I’ve talked to linemen all around Cleveland and people that I know and they all feel the same way. … I think Ohio State is taking too long and I don’t think they are doing it right (at this time).”

Luke has every right to feel that way, and to go north and prove them wrong. OL is the most common spot to beat the projections.
As soon as I walked in the door, I could tell that there was not good energy.
This is a pretty loud sentence, and indicative of someone who made up there mind before the visit. The chances of him being treated badly or specifically the second he arrived is pretty low.

Yes, that's how recruiting works. Penn State can offer all of the semi decent OL from Ohio, and then sort it out later (including dropping them). OSU cannot offer anyone and continue to evaluate them.

Let's tally up these cleveland OL in the 2023 class (since the 2024 kids are hardly a complete list of recruitments)

Ohio OL very far from Cleveland:
4* Montgomery - OSU
4* Padilla - OSU
3* Siereveld - OSU
3* Tengesdahl - UC - Dayton area
3* Caretta - Pitt
3* Daniels - Pitt - Cincy area
3* Rivera - Rutgers
3* Rhett - Toledo
3* Ludwig - Toledo

Michigan offered/snubbed exactly like OSU, with only 1 exception, Caretta, and given that they lost to Pitt, I question if they truly chased him, especially given how well they do on the OL.

You have to get to the 965th + 1232th ranked players to find Cleveland OL of any kind.

Or he's talking to 2024 kids that are very early in their recruitments, which is much more likely.
