tOSU Recruiting Discussion

Some comments from Birm on recruiting in the NIL age:

I think this is why Day is so hesitant to offer big upfront NIL deals to incoming freshman. You can't have that many highly ranked kids that have been offered BIG upfront not cause rifts in a locker room, with upperclassmen who were just as highly ranked in HS. As good as Caleb Downs is, he hasn't played a college down, and you expect Jordan Battle to be happy knowing that Downs may be getting a 6 or 7 figure deal without stepping foot on campus?
Jase McClellan, Roydell Williams and Trey Sanders were all highly rated, and I'm sure they can't be that happy that Richard Young and Justice Haynes may get huge deals from collectives.

It's the same problem professional sports faced 25 years ago. Players were too rich before they were prepared to have that kind of money. It's hard to manage money well. Usually, your wealth grows slowly while you accumulate it, and your ability to manage it grows as well. These guys are taking giant bank account leaps, and they're not prepared. I would struggle as well, and I'm in my mid 30's

I probably just throw it all into low interest stable shit and live off the interest every year. Which isn't a great strategy to vastly increase your wealth. But would keep me slowly ticking up with more spending money then I'd honestly know what to do with in a year

WILL THE BUCKEYES LAND A COMMITMENT FROM TYSEER DENMARK?

DO ANY OF THE THREE PREMIER FIVE-STAR 2023 DE’S PULL THE TRIGGER?

JUST HOW LARGE WILL THE VISITOR LIST FOR THE GAME GROW TO?

WILL SAMSON OKUNLOLA OR CALEB DOWNS BE AMONG THOSE IN ATTENDANCE?

The difference is, professional athletes knew that once they became pro, they would be paid and everyone in the locker room knew as much. In College sports we’re entering a new age, where incoming HS players are reaping the benefits that current players haven’t been able to benefit from(at least above board, and not to the same amount). I’ve always thought(and I’mnot the only one) that this would cause locker room divisions in programs who decide to pay up front. No way is an upper class men at aTm going to be happy with hearing that the 2022 class was paid(rumored) $30mil, and hardly any of them start. If I’m an upper class man at Miami, im not happy with frosh getting large sums from Ruiz, yet im busting my butt and we’re still losing. And to think that the transfer portal will continue to be very active with more kids unhappy about their PT even after getting large sums of money

And if not regulated, will only get worse

The decrease in stress level alone would be invaluable. When you don't have to work to eat and everything else, makes it a heck of a lot more enjoyable. I would think because I certainly wouldn't know for sure.

Anybody see that Daniel Harris decommitted from UGA?

And already has crystal balls to Ped St.

Miami (Fla.) Gulliver Prep four-star cornerback Daniel Harris reopened his recruitment earlier this week after committing to Georgia back in July. Penn State, Ohio State and Michigan have been among the teams look to flip him, and after months of pursuit, he chose to leave the Bulldogs’ class.

But that might not be the end to his story in Athens. According to On3 Director of Recruiting Chad Simmons, Georgia is very much still a contender to land him for a second time, and Simmons considers them the trending school at the moment.

“A school like Georgia will get recruited against about how good their roster is and what their depth is at a kid’s position,” Simmons said Thursday during On3’s Inside Scoop recruiting show. “Obviously he’s well aware of what Georgia has, who they’re recruiting, who is in this class. They’ve been pretty transparent about that, and I think he sees it on their roster.

… I think that got into Harris’ head a little bit to examine opportunities, whether it’s Penn State, Michigan State, Michigan, Ohio State has been in there. Very rarely do you see a kid commit to the same school twice, but I wouldn’t be surprised if Harris gets back in this Georgia class. … I think Penn State is probably their biggest competition, but I do like — as crazy as it sounds — Georgia as the school to get Harris back in the end.

Ohio State vs. Maryland: Ryan Day details importance recruiting in D.C., Maryland, Virginia area

Ohio State is looking to handle business when hitting the road to battle Maryland on the field and on the recruiting trail. Ahead of Saturday's meeting with the Terrapins, Buckeyes head coach Ryan Day detailed the importance of recruiting in the Washington D.C., Maryland and Virginia area (DMV).

"I think you've seen us do well there, and there's a lot of good talent in that area, a lot of good high schools football programs," Day said. "We continue to recruit there. I think there's very very high-end talent there. A lot of guys, really, it's an easy trip to Ohio State, they see Ohio State as a great place to go. Not too far away, but close enough that their family can come to games and be a part of their college experience. Larry Johnson really has recruited that area for us for the last four years. I don't know how it would compare numbers-wise to some of the other places we recruit, but consider it a very high priority."

Annnnd, any recruit that tOSU can pull from the DMV area weakens Penn St's teams. Forever, they've been mining that area, very successfully. Now, seems like the southern teams are reaching into Yankee-land to grab some of the elites. All they gotta do is drive over the Appalachians to get to C'bus. Easy peasy. Makes sense that Coach J recruits that area, as he did so for PSU during the two lifetimes he worked to Penn St. And doesn't matter how many 5*s they have, just so tOSU is able to pick up the diamond-in-the-rough out of there.....go Bucks!

Apparently some kid from Avon committed to play OL for TTUN. A 4 star kid. Luke Hamilton

Supposedly OSU never offered the kid, and for whatever reason he felt slighted and was made to feel unwelcome.

What's the skinny on this kid? Was this a legit loss for the Buckeyes?

Not a legit loss. Like stated, OSU never offered, OL seems to be a down year in OH on the outside in ‘24. Was going to be a camp offer at best if it ever happened
