tOSU Recruiting Discussion

Not a legit loss. Like stated, OSU never offered, OL seems to be a down year in OH on the outside in ‘24. Was going to be a camp offer at best if it ever happened
That's the difference between TTUN and OSU. TTUN will take these projects and mold them for 4 or 5 years. We get studs but they only stay 3 years.. 4 max.

The issue we are having is TTUN is at a place where they have a steady supply of these men (yes 22/23 year old men) who have been in their system for 4 or 5 years. There a few great players, but the bulk hang around.

OSU has depth and all big talent, but it's constantly circulating so fast there are holes somewhere in our team.

The one's who would be our 4th year guy enter the transfer portal.

So, Day needs to get the most out of these kids while he has them. If it means creating fierce animals even better.

I thought the issue is we have had so many OL recruiting misses and brought in so many projects the last few years, that we are in bad shape next year with who’s leaving.

Did I miss something here?

Yeah, Stud really fucked the ship.

I think for some reason, TTUN has better grasp on OL projects and OL development than we have.

Hopefully Frye can right the ship.

I think you are right. Dawand Jones did work out. At least he was an in state kid who understood the rivalry and gave a shit.

Changes your narrative a bit eh sport?
Not really... ? I don't think I really had a narrative. Just that we need to develop better, and if I am going to give TTUN credit for anything, it is their OL development. Plus they keep their kids over all longer because they just aren't as talented when they come out of high school.

Stud really put us in a bad place.

There is something to be said for having local kids on the team. They get the rivalry a little more than out of state players.

There I am done saying stuff, because I am unsure what you think my narrative was.

There's the old adage that you can't bake a great cake without great ingredients. So true, and this metaphor carries over to football, recruiting or otherwise. Frye really hasn't gotten a chance yet, and mostly his pieces this year were already firmly in place, as the pipeline wasn't exactly full. While saying that, I wonder why the OL wasn't more 'violent' or whatever adjective was used to explain why there wasn't enough 'push' on running plays. Given Day's proclivity for the pass, maybe more time was spent on pass-pro than run blocking? With the LT, RT, and RG either declaring or running out of eligibility, then the next generation needs to step in. Maybe Montgomery steps into a starting role, but there's a large chasm between HS line play and college, strength and technique. Even the overgrown 5*s in HS may need some seasoning. Not entirely certain what makes a great OL coach, as (to me at least), it's pretty simple. Hold position, or fire out, left shoulder or right shoulder to create a hole, eyes up to catch a 'leaker', dunno. Maybe we don't feed these big guys, and make them as mean as an underfed dog......facetious folks. Candidly, believe that tOSU line did better than last year's four tackles and a center, and hope the development continues. PS, although don't really believe it'll be happening, wish the back-ups would have gotten more snaps than they did. Maybe there would have been less injuries during the year. Go Bucks!

I think you’re still emotional from The Game, and looking for any way to say that scUM is better than OSU. Fans can’t have it both ways. Stud brought in the same type of projects you talk about and fans complained. OSU went after 5stars and got them, and now they’re complaining that they should have more projects. People hated Stud’s tactics, and now they envy them. Similar to how people had the pitchforks out for Urban Meyer his last few years, and now want him back. Losses make fans lose all types of common sense.

This isn’t solely directed at you, but OL is literally the most difficult position to project from HS to college. ScUM has had a number of Army All Americans that hardly saw the field and some 3stars that were stalwarts. OSU has done the same. Harry Miller was a 5star who never panned out, but a 3star like Dewand Jones did.

Also, Hairball has a run focused team and constructs and OL in that image. Day prefers a spread, passing scheme, and that shows in how he constructs his OL. Also, Frye is in his first year, let’s give the guy more than a year, he did damn good job at UCLA with guys who would be most likely backups at OSU.
