tOSU Recruiting Discussion

A month has passed and somehow things look even better, with Wyatt Davis jumping on board and Trey Smith being a credible (but heavily contested) possibility for this class. This first breakdown is based on them missing on Smith (and Tufele)

My God, that's just filthy.

Just curious, if it came down to an elite lineman, which side of the ball is most coveted, offense or defense right now? I'm thinking a choice of a Tufele/Wilson vs. Trey Smith as an example.
That would be a tough decision but let's assume we are talking about a choice of Tufele or Smith because they aren't getting Wilson. I honestly think they would try to fit both into the class but I think Smith is the guy you absolutely cannot say no to.

I have Grimes, Lindsey, Young and Okudah as IN.

I like where they are at with Akers, Browning and Riep.

They have a chance with Smith, Tufele, Hines and Williams.

They aren't getting Wilson or Harris. Or DPJ for that matter.

DT and it's not close.

Great tackles are extremely valuable but elite DTs are more rare. They're also a lot harder to find up north. The SEC comes up here regularly for OL. The south has the market cornered on DTs and that's where the true SEC speed lies.

There's also the matter of OL rankings being pretty iffy when it comes to HS recruits, arguably moreso than any other position. I don't have meaningful data to back that up but it's arguably the hardest position to scout for incredible college scouts and coaches so it makes sense that website gurus would struggle also.

Give me the team with the elite DTs all day. I can get by with Darryl Baldwin at RT (and frankly they win another NC last year if he had another year). I can't get by with Darryl Baldwin at DT.

From a objective position analysis I might agree. From looking at the guys in the example I gave (Tufele/Smith) I'm not sure that I do.

Either way it's a good question and the answer will likely be differently from year to year because it depends on current depth and currently committed recruits.
