tOSU Recruiting Discussion

If Nick Bosa ends up being "as advertised" when he steps on campus, it wouldn't necessarily surprise me if they moved guys around to get the best 4 on the field at the same time (probably Lewis or Hubbard).

It also wouldn't surprise me if our coaching staff develops these guys, one of them had a breakout offseason and becomes a force in the middle that we need. There's no one in the country I'd have more faith in developing talent than LJ... his resume speaks for itself. Would love to see Michael Hill make the leap because he's got the tools. He just hasn't performed well since he got injured as a frosh (he looked really promising before that).

Recruiting isn't the be-all end-all, but it certainly helps make life easier on the staff

@Buckeye86 had a good list which is mostly intact. I'll go with 24 in the class though giving Urban one surprise.

A finish that easily could happen and would be an absolute stellar finish:

Haskins
Lawrence
Fuller
Victor (Conley possible but....)
Harrison
Wint
*surprise (not sure why but I could see an OL surprise for some reason)

On the verge of landing the best pocket QB and 3 pure well rounded receivers that Meyer has ever had. Could add a dangerous facet to Meyer's offense which hasn't relied on bigger athletic receivers much (Thomas and Cooper most notable). Slot receivers and athletic TEs have been more of a staple than complete receivers.

You are pretty optimistic about landing those 4 recruits. I will be happy to get 2 of them and one of them is Haskins.

You know Urban would love to be able to use this line to close out the stretch run of recruiting:

"We just had a class of seniors win more games than any in Ohio State history. How would you like to win 50 games in your college career?"

Could not agree more. Can't imagine a better human being, coach, and recruiter to have coaching the Ohio State defensive line. We would not have been in the Antwuan Jackson conversation (and many other conversations) without him. He has helped OSU land multiple elite defensive ends, and the elite DT prospects will follow in time - believe that. Moreover, the current DTs are being coached up well. I am betting that we will hear Rece Davis, Herbstreit, et al., utter the name "Robert Landers" before too long...
Ehhhh

Our DB haul is flat ridiculous. That combined with the last LB haul and the Defensive Ends coming in..... I'm looking forward to being the best defense in the country again..
FIFY. We've been whiffing big time on a number of elite DTs in several classes. I too am looking forward to the defense being the best or at least one of the best in the nation again. But we need to shore up the middle of the line with the same quality of talent as we are everywhere else

I've got a feeling that going forward, we'll see a lot of DE's end up being DTs and do very well against the type of offenses in college football. I just think it's inevitably going to be that the super huge guys will become less huge and longer defensive players; like the younger Bosa.

Guys. We are one elite DT and one elite Safety away from having a dominate group on D. I feel the offense is basically just about there and the potential to go over the top with guys like Haskins, Corley, Victor and next year with Grimes, that RB stud from Georgia, etc.

As far as positions we have to land to be elite again on defense though it's really just one more stud at DT and safety IMO . Even if we just land serviceable guys we have enough talent at those positions and elite guys in the rest of the spots to be better than 90% of the teams out there. When you are at the upper crust you nitpick because your expectations are that high. And that's great. But just keep in mind that the cupboard is already stocked very, very well. We look good right now for recruiting in '17 for secondary and DT so we are actually in a really good spot. We have room to finish out this class by chasing some very high level guys.

If we don't land them, it's still all good because the staff loaded up early with verbals from 17 studs which really takes the pressure off. How many teams would be thrilled to be in our spot right now? (Basically everyone)

Urb and the staff aren't done though. They never will be. They keep our dreams alive at the best of the best because they have the stones to get guys like Lawrence up here on campus from down south. Will he commit? Probably not but hey, it's a blast just being in the conversation.

Edit * Oh, Merry Christmas out there Buckeye land. It's a glorious time.
