tOSU Recruiting Discussion

Plan B DT's. Urban addressed this as an area of concern and we didn't get any game changers.

They will be frosh next year. None of us know what they'll become as Buckeyes. I'd take guys who want to be Buckeyes anyday. I wouldn't expect much from true frosh at DT anyway, breaking into the rotation would be something and that isn't guaranteed from a star rating.

All 3 of Kerry Combs, Zach Smith, and Tony Alford make the top 25 recruiters for Rivals List in 2015
Three out of the top 25 plus Urbz... like lol

All made more comical for the rest of the B1G when you consider the reps that Fickell and Larry Johnson have as recruiters and then on top of that, who is a better recruiter than Urban himself. Just really expect these next two classes to be insane.

After Urban's first recruiting class one pundit wondered when Ohio State would "lap the field" in the Big Ten.
We may be there.
Still, it's very hard to repeat as National Champion these days.
Let alone win our Division. I'll remain cautious.

This is the one area where Urban has lagged behind tressel. It makes sense to chase the stars, as great DTs are game changers but they are very rare and highly contested.

Tressel did not land many of these (Floyd, Still, Thompson, etc) but he always landed the high floor lunch pail guys like Larimore, Goebel, Denlinger, etc. They weren't elite on draft day or signing day but they were very productive throughout their time at osu.

Now it is too soon to judge the last few classes as that position is the realm of grown freaking men but I greatly miss the non sexy ultra productive dts that tressel brought in.

Note: I like Landers a lot, I'm speaking overall.

I understand being cautious but besides MSU who else poses a realistic challenge to OSU in the east? And the west is just a joke, last year was supposed to be a very good Wisconsin team... Yeah about that. The NC will be difficult to repeat especially with playing 2gms instead of 1, but a lot of the top teams from last year lost a lot of talent, and OSU did not

This is where LJSR comes in, he can help get the most out of guys we have. I think Landers is going to be a star.

I will be honest though, I have been disappointed that we havn't gotten the grade A stud linemen though. The Goldmans, Sweats, Beckner Jr's, we are due some studs

Yes, this. Thank you for the productive answer to the question. This is the one area where Urban has publicly stated that the team needs to improve.

It would be a stunning collapse if we did not win the division this season. The only team that's even close right now to being a true contender besides us is Sparty. Indiana, Rutgers, and Maryland will never see a title. Michigan will eventually win the division but it will be years down the road. Ped State may win it once a decade...maybe. As long as Meyer is our head coach and he stays healthy--physically and mentally--we will be prohibitive favorite to win the divisions virtually every year.

It's very difficult to land those guys and recruiting is often local (Beckner, Sweat stayed home). Hopefully Hamilton becomes a Tressel type of DT that can contribute solid role player to starter minutes for 2-3 years (many of Tressel's DTs were 4 year contributors).

Why do you think that is though? We land all kinds of elite talent from out of state at other positions.
