It would be easy to hang your head over this class not getting a stud DE that could step in and play from day 1. However, it opens the door to land multiple stud DE's in the 2016 class. Ohio State already has a commitment in 2016 from Jonathan Cooper, and we are looking great with regards to Nick Bosa, Auston Robertson, & Prince Sammons, among other national blue chip DEs. It's precisely what Alabama just went through after swinging and missing with stud DB prospects late in their recruiting cycle last year (look up the DBs they're about to sign tomorrow. It's sickening)... and we're about to go through the same process with our DE recruiting next year.

Besides, I'm not betting against Larry Johnson this year with a full pre-season ahead of him. This isn't a DePriest/Hicks situation. We'll be just fine.

My only thing is we likely need the depth this year and really Bosa, Cooper, and at least one more of Sammons/Robertson were coming regardless of who we got in '15. Now these guys may be asked to contribute earlier than is ideal. The only guy I could see getting in the rotation this season is maybe Cornell as a SDE/3-tech...perhaps Jones. Then next year all of Diesel, Schutt, and Bosa will be gone, so the '16 guys are forced to contribute. I think many could at both DE/DT if it goes as well as expected (Bosa and Gary for sure, maybe Sammons and Robertson).

And really this is the only weakness of the class, I am not disparaging the class as a whole. I'm VERY excited about this group...very good mix of highly rated guys who could contribute quickly, along with some high ceiling guys that would be high risk, high reward, except that we had stocked up at those positions and could take some risks at those positions. Not to mention if we get Hill and/or Prince, plus keep who we have, it would be unreal.

By way of perspective, I am a snowbird down in Florida. My complex is full of B1G migrants who love to talk sports. My Wiskey buddies - who have two 3 star DL lined up for tomorrow - were not amused when I told them we had whiffed on a four star DL today and had to settle for the three other 4 star DL who we already have lined up (I didn't mention Alabi and Hamilton).

I also hang out with guys from Purdue, MSU, Minnesota, and of course UM.

We live in an entirely different world.

Birm is calling the we keep Weber and Gibson, plus get Hill and Prince. Needless to say, that would be an AWESOME finish.
yea he's been clear that there is something going on outta Detroit, even though he's still sticking with 100% Weber is in.... but if Weber doesn't sign neither does Alibi ...

I don't like what he is insinuating at all... Coombs has put a TON of work into Detroit and one class could easily tear down a lot of that. Which would be really unfortunate seeing the '16 and '17 talent we are very much in on as well

Regardless of what happens with Weber, you have to assume that continuing to pull top guys out of Michigan is going to be much tougher going forward. I like that we are going to continue to push for guys up there (2016 WR Donnie Corley likes us a lot), but with two very good coaches now in Michigan and not all that many good players, we probably aren't going to pull more than an occasional player from up there.

The more important thing is to keep the fence up around Ohio and I see no signs of needing to worry about that in 2016 or 2017.
