tOSU Recruiting Discussion

As NJ alluded to, a RB has only so many hits he can take over his career, and the career of an NFL RB tends to be rather short. While I can't say for certain Carlos would disagree with you, there is also the very real possibility he would state that the 20 carries a game (as opposed to 30) left him in better shape for his NFL career.

http://www.elevenwarriors.com/ohio-...idates-to-finish-ohio-states-recruiting-class

Ohio State's 2015 recruiting class, termed "Elite15" by Ohio State director of player personnel Mark Pantoni, currently sits at 12 commitments. The Buckeyes are ranked 15th in 247Sports composite team rankings, which is good for second in the Big Ten behind Penn State.

Based on the number of graduating seniors and the scholarships Ohio State will regain from expiring sanctions, there are currently 16 available scholarships for the 2015 class. Accounting for transfers, medical hardships and early NFL departures, I'd expect that number to be closer to 20 when all is said and done. I wrote more about the scholarship situation last month.....

That's 22. I don't feel good about Kirk anymore, feel like it's been trending away. This would be a realistic haul.

FRIDAY SKULL SESSION
Meyer, talking about Thomas (and Corey Smith), said something interesting:

“Corey Smith has got to play. He's gained 12 pounds, he's doing everything we're asking him to do. He had a terrible work ethic when he came here. Michael Thomas is a guy that didn't have complete understanding of what we're trying to get done. A nice kid, but those two are two examples of guys who have to get going or we'll recruit right by them.”

"Recruit right by them."

Actually, if you think about it... all five of those guys (including Corey Smith) could get "recruited right by" if they don't take the next step in their projected evolution. And all six of those guys appear to be damned fine footballers. Crazy.

Recruiting is a cold, cold world... but such are the stakes of the game at which Ohio State plays football.
Didn't know where to put this, but I thought this Meyer quote provided some interesting perspective on how he approaches recruiting. This isn't a newsflash by any stretch, but the man is hardcore.

Great stuff Kren. Thanks. I wouldn't call Urban hardcore though. I think he is just anti-PC and is a coach's coach. That's what I love about him. His admiration for the old school coaches is obvious. So is his appreciation for the new school, ala Chip Kelly. Urban is the perfect blend of old school and new school.

This also shows the different importance on recruiting that the Big 10 has, and our coach having to be in many dog fights in the SEC knows how important it is to recruit. You can't ever relax on the guys you have, always recruit to replace or challenge. Many of the other Big 10 teams haven't gotten that yet, and that has allowed even bottom feeder SEC teams to poach kids from Big 10 country

To those of you who follow recruiting: What impact does Braxton's injury have on recruiting, especially at the QB spot? Assuming we discover at least one QB in Cardale and JT it would seem that the position is locked down for the next two three years.
