tOSU Recruiting Discussion

After watching what can best be described as "horrific" defensive play in the recently re-broadcast Northwestern game, as long as we can freakin' tackle better we'll be a better team! My hopes have gone up a lot!

Trust me, the view from the 11th row at the 45 yard line wasn't any different. Awful game. In all fairness though a HUGE storm rolled through right before kick off. It was a freaking downpour for quite a while and the conditions were pretty rough. Still, it was bad stuff.

Northwestern......got to give credit to Brax for being clutch at the end of the game to pull out a win. And Hyde, also. We could have easily lost that game. Instead it was Northwestern who had an epic collapse.
Back to recruiting.

@RBO7OSU you really think we have a shot at landing Wimbush AND Gibson? Seems like by the time NSD gets here they will both be major names and hard to imagine both landing at the same school. If you knew they weren't both coming here then who would you predict it will be and who then would be the second QB taken? Also, I really like your list but would hope to see more safety prospects. Go Bucks!!!

Both say they know the staff wants two QBs and are completely ok with that...not sure if that is sincere but I guess I am taking them at their word. Tough to imagine both in this class. As much as I love Gibson, I would slightly prefer Wimbush and then another like Locksley, Nunez, or Francois (no real preference between those three really) if Gibson is not the other QB. Athletes are great but we are getting the type of skilled position guys where we do not need to have our QB carry the team with his legs...I'm ready to have a more polished passer on board and that nod easily goes to Wimbush. Plus Wimbush is PLENTY athletic...most may disagree with me because of Gibson's elite athletic ability (and trust me, he is elite in that regard) but given the weapons we have assembled at the skilled positions, I want to ensure that we can distribute them the ball.

So with the recent offer to Josh Moore at TE should one assume that the ship has sailed with Conrad? For those who understand the comparable items what do the coaches see differently in Boykin and Moore as opposed to Conrad as it relates to our TE position?

OSU told Conrad they want to evaluate him in person because the competition he plays against is so bad they can't properly evaluate his tape. He was initially OK with earning an offer at camp but he apparently changed his mind recently. Unless he flips again and decides to camp it seems very unlikely he ends up in Columbus.

Definitely not panicking yet but one of two things will happen in this class in my eyes: 1) We get a group of guys from the second batches of offers as a majority of this class; or 2) We keep primarily targeting the guys that have committed early while the "hot" recruiting teams fall apart this season and hope to bring them in.

Regardless, we need a commitment soon that gets the momentum back in our corner.

I think early commitments are becoming more and more meaningless every year... it will be a clown show near the end as usual (especially with the southern kids) but whether or not Ohio State will flip some kids (or will even want to) remains to be seen.

We haven't even seen the wave of camp OFFERS yet, but I'd think they will become more of a factor in the next few months.

What I don't understand is what guys like Jerome Baker and Dre'Mont Jones are waiting on right now.

I agree, but it's not just southern kids, it's pretty much all the kids are making recruiting a clown show. They know the attention they'll get from fans and coaching staffs and love it, and it's hard to blame them. They pull our strings with a tweet or an interview. The summer will be very interesting like usual, as will the season. The season will begin to show a number of flips and decommits. Jerome and DreMont are no different from other top kids and are liking the recruiting saga. Baker especially is seeing that there's a big world outside of Ohio, and that the top schools around the nation want to pull out the red carpet, so I'd love to be in his shoes, he'll still be a Buckeye, but on his own timeline.

RB, great points, kids will start to decommit IMO as the season nears the end and the team they committed to is going to the Russell Athletic bowl or the Cheetos Bowl. I doubt a team like Texas A&M has the same success, as Johnny Football singlehandedly kept them from 2-3 extra losses and falling to obscurity in the Sec West. I think teams like Alabama, Auburn and LSU will beat them so bad that the teams they barely beat last year will make them a 7-8 win team. Teams like Miami and UF will also fall from their off season high, as will scUM, etc. and our staff is masters at flipping players. This year will definitely be a marathon

While the UFM's previous classes started off somewhat slow, he has finished strong each year he has been at OSU. I have a feeling UFM and staff will get a flurry of commitments during and after summer camp and as usual he'll finish strong. No worries here. Oh by the way, looked at what happened to scUM the last couple of years. Started off strong and finished with a wimper.
