tOSU Recruiting Discussion

I think Blanding could be a real possibility if Mike London gets canned. If London is fired he doesn't land at UVA, and tOSU and FSU are the likely landing spots.

Prince is someone I think too many people are giving up on. Keep in mind his main recruiter could be the Buckeye OC before singing day. This is the kinda late pull Meyer is famous for.

I like the way you're thinking. But a lot of dominoes need to fall for what you foresee to happen. I can't wait to see what names emerge over time.

I'm not saying I feel like Prince is gonna end up at OSU. I'm just saying his situation is pretty fluid. Locksley could very well end up as OC. As TH is gone after this season. Prince's biggest pull to MD is his brother passing away and his mom wanting him close.

Blanding on the other hand, IMO, would be much more likely. After getting hammered by Ball State you gotta think London is done.

If we keep rolling to the title game and London gets canned, I think we are in line to land Blanding...and imo, top 5 prospect nationally and if you look at a future of Blanding and Bell roaming the safety positions, look out. I honestly think we could take two out of Blanding/JuJu/Adams based on both talent and ability to play multiple positions. Smith and Lattimore are in regardless imo.

At this point I think we have all our positions of need covered sans OL. We only need one tackle but I am sure the staff would be comfortable with two. I like our odds with Prince the longer it stretches out and Mavety will be an old fashioned battle but I hope we win because he is ready to play right now at RT (I see Decker at LT next year).

LB is next up and we already have a wonderful haul with Hubbard, Berger, and Booker. That being said, I really want to see McMillan in this class as the crown jewel. He is physically ready to play now and if he gets the mental aspect of the game and comes to Columbus in good shape, he will play right away. Plus we have invested a ton of effort for a long time with him and considering how long we have been in the lead, it would sting to lose him. However, I think we get him.

I think UFM will undoubtedly want a DT in this class and the prime candidate is Holley, but he could be leaning towards PSU. If we miss on him, I think we try to flip Brown from UVA and/or pursue some other big guy like Shaw or Knadi.

With this class basically already stacked, we really can just focus on a select few elite types and flipping some of the top guys. Further, the staff can focus on getting to the championship with much of the class locked up. Kind of boring stretch for us in the recruiting season but I will always take this kind of boring :)

He is? Wow. Really weird that Tom would put this out there in the middle of an 18-0 run and right in the thick of a NC hunt. Weird.

I don't wanna derail too much, but TH has been presumed gone since the end of last season. He made a promise to Urban to stock around for two year though.

I'm sure he's focused only on the season and team at hand right now. But he will be gone after this season.

I'm not going to go as far to bring up coaching changes in the recruiting thread, especially since London coaches at UVA, a school that was fine with al groh's mediocrity for years. London just won 8 games for them a year or 2 ago, and could probably do it again in another year. UVA isn't exactly a high pressure job, so I don't see them firing him after his 4th year, IMO.
I like what you mentioned RB, but I don't think McMillan comes in and gets pt from day one, look at mike Mitchell. He could, but it seems we hear every year about a cant miss all world recruit that will come in and set the world on fire, and then we find out he redshirts because he just wasn't ready yet(jalin Marshall, mike Mitchell, Gareon Conley, Kyle Dodson, etc), not saying it'll definitely happen, but I just want to lower your expectations a little about a frosh.
And though Mavety would be ready from day 1, I think Dodson could also be ready next year as would Evan lisle if decker moves to LT. And don't forget about Daryl Baldwin as well
I don't think we can ever say that well have a boring recruiting period with this staff. Especially since they're still throwing out offers to 2014 kids, and going hard after 2015 guys as well. The class is already stacked, but the last 5-6 guys will be very very interesting, especially since we could get 1 of them this friday(fingers crossed).

Disagree a little on pursuing another DT if Holley moves on unless it's Elam. I kinda think it's Holley/Elam or nothing. The staff seems pretty intent on landing 6 for the OL but might be fine with only 5 if we landed Mavety. I think the class is very focused on safety right now. If numbers ran short and we landed 2 more safety types instead of 2 more for the OL I wouldn't be surprised. Especially if your think the staff really is interested in bringing Gardner back next year. They are focused on both positions though of course but you would have to think landing playmakers in the secondary is very important. On Raekwon, I look at it this way: LB is still a woefully suspect position group with virtually no depth. Even with the current verbals you would have to think the staff is dead set on landing another one and yet we don't hear much about offers to other LB prospects out there. I think that speaks volumes about how the staff thinks they stand with Raekwon.

Stepping back a little I can't help but be amazed at where we sit. There isn't a single position group that hasn't been addressed really well at this point. Of course we need more guys for the OL, etc. but it's not like we are still frantic about it. We have 4 studs as it is and we are in the hunt on a few more. What a GREAT spot to be in. Seems like we shored up the major needs and now we can focus on landing the huge fish to end the class. I also think we have a little bit of flexibility with this approach. For instance the first 6 games have put a spot light on our weakness in the back 7 and we have the space to address that still.

What's really comical is that I get all hyped on all this stuff.. despite I do realize.. I have no idea the coaches ranking of the still uncommitted.. who the coaches really want.. who is better than another at any given position... but there does come a time.. I just trust the coaches

I imagine that they have an ideal class, with a little flex on some positions. Then have 2-3 remaining spots where they take the best recruit that want in.
