tOSU Recruiting Discussion

It worries me that we are put in the position of recruiting juco O lineman. I thought Warriner was supposed to be a great recruiter? Maybe not so much? I love what he's shone coaching the O line, though.

Considering what Warriner & staff did late with the '12 class (Decker & Dodson) and what they've done EARLY with the '14 class (Trout & Jones), I wouldn't worry about or question the recruiting ('13 was just a weird year with OL recruiting).

The three JUCO offers are to kids who have offers from all over the country, including many of the top programs. Why not offer kids who can come in & contribute right away?

He brought in Dodson and Decker.

Also, 2013 was a weird year in recruiting. We lost on a lot of good OL players because other coaches had spent a year building a relationship with them, or because they were more interested in other schools than ours'. I don't think it is fair to equate the OL recruiting in this one year to Warinner's recruiting ability.

I think 2014 will be a much better year because the staff has been able to build relationships with top OL prospects for a while now. If we don't land some major OL prospects in 2014, I think we're in trouble. I doubt that happens though. We're off to a much better start with Jones and Trout. If we land Jamarco Jones, and 2 or 3 other OL, our OL class will have surpassed scUM's previous two years' OL classes. And the recent report of the visit by Knox only impresses me. I think we will get a good OL class this year.

We are off to a great start in terms of building relationships with this year's prospects. Compared to last year's targets like Raulerson who never even visited, this year's targets like Jamarco Jones (already visited four times) and Sam Mustipher (3 times) have been around the program a lot more. Not worried about OL recruiting at all.

I agree with the sentiment that we should do fine with OL recruiting this year. We're in on a lot of guys and I expect us to get at least one JUCO lineman that can come in and start next year.

Last years sucked though. The staff could have reached on a few Ohio guys but chose to pass so they must think they're going to get it figured out.

General statement on the topic, not necessarily directed as a reply to the quoted post:

I have no issue with filling holes with a couple JUCOs here and there. If they are of good character, pull their weight in the classroom and can compete on the field... Sounds like a Buckeye to me.

I agree, I don't see much difference between a juinor college and a prep school such as Hargrave.

I hope he is getting a serious look.

I believe he, barker, kizer, ulmer, allen and a few others are all pretty much equal. Have to be seen at camp this summer, and most likely another season will probably be watched before an offer os sent out to anyome but watson

2 offers have already gone out for the QB position in the class of '15.

'Come to camp so we can see you throw' or 'come to Columbus to demonstrate that you have legitimate interest in Ohio State' are the likely 'offers' that are being given to '15 QBs right now.

The difference between 'offers' and 'OFFERS' has been covered a million times here and elsewhere.

Yeah, Urban Meyer and his staff have proven over and over that they have no clue what they are doing on the recruiting trail. I'm really worried too.

That's why he said at the end, "but that's just me."

Sorry, I just dislike seeing a fan state their opinion and then get responded to with "the staff and coach know way more" typical comment. This is a message board meant for discussion, if we just went along with whatever the staff did without talk than there would be no point for this board. The bottom line is, as great as this staff is, they won't always "get it right" so the OP may very well be right instead of the staff, time will tell.

With that being said, I think the staff is more focused and impressed with the '15 QB class, as am I, and would help to balance the scholarship class breakdown at the position.
