tOSU Recruiting Discussion

Absolutely, but if you can get a talent like Thomas in-state and all the while steal a scUM recruit, you do it.

Can we all just move on from the dymonte thomas dicussion unless its in the rumor mill? The kid hasn't mentioned us in any interviews and hasn't made an attempt to visit. I think its time to move on and stop mentioning him as ever being a buckeye. This wasn't solely direfted at you RB either btw

Dymonte who? That sounds distantly familiar. Just barely in memory. Mr. Bell on the other hand is a GAMER who I would choose between the two and is very much in play.

Same here. Higher quality player and he seems to be interested in us. I know Dymonte is an Ohio kid but I would still take Bell.

Agreed. id take bell in a heartbeat and watch him be a stud for us for years. It'd be sick watching him behind the likes of woodard and burrow

What's our number, 21? If we have 5 spots left I assume a true LB and another WR for sure. If so what would be the priority of the other 3?

Another WR
Secondary player
OT
Viper
Another true LB

Before answering assume you had your pick of realistic players to choose from, which 3 spots get filled? As I think about it I imagine having Mitchell and Gibson as very likely being the initial LB and WR spots. Then based on needs how would you choose between James Quick (WR), Bell (S), Johnson (OT), Lewis (Viper), or McMillian (LB) ???

I realize this is based on many assumptions. I don't know if we even have 5 spots left. I just have NO clue how the staff is looking at the needs that still should be addressed. The 5 players I mentioned are all pretty elite. I chose them because they are all in play and makes it easier to assess by need rather than taking a player just because they are elite. I mean we just told a very elite player Derrick Greene that we were not pursuing him so obviously the staff has a pretty clear agenda. What is it?

EDIT: I can't believe I even wrote this. Thinking this could happen is certainly a high class problem and just blows my mind that it can realistically be discussed.

My 5 that I think we'll close out the class with are:
WR: Gibson (and maybe Foster if we get lucky)
LB: Mitchell
Viper: Lewis
OT: Finley
S: Bell (by far the biggest reach, but I think we have a great chance)

WR-Gibson
WR-Quick
OT-Johnson
LB-Mitchell
LB/S-Worley

Johnson will get full court press imo.....has to be number 1 on the board. Position of need and with a very favorable depth chart I believe we beat out Pitt.

I think Gibson, Mitchell and Worley are as close to locks as you can get and Quick is the only real reach of the five.

With this said i think we have a decent shot at Bell and Foster.....I just think the above five are the most likely to finish out this class.

Worley and Gibson = in unless something crazy happens
Munger = most likely in unless another lineman pulls trigger first and we are done with the bigs.
Lewis = in unless LSU or another big time southern program turns up the heat.
Mitchell = optimistic but the longer this drags out the slimmer the chance.

That's 21. My guess is they save the 22nd spot for Bell.

2012 - .......................... not useful data.
2011 - 1 of T-5, 6 of T-13.
2010 - 3 of T-5, 9 of T-13.
2009 - 0 of T-5, 4 of T-13.
2008 - 2 of T-5, 9 of T-13.
2007 - 2 of T-5, 5 of T-13.
As seen above, the leaks are not that unusual (and that was when OSU was peerless in the B1G, 08 & 10).

The concern is where the leaks are headed. Most of them going to one school, particularly a rival, is concerning, not yet worrisome.

I think it all goes back to this point: you absolutely can stockpile enough talent to win/dominate (if everyone else is in the tank) the Big Ten using the Tressel/Hoke recruiting strategy.

Tressel proved that beyond a doubt and Hoke will field some of the best teams in the Big Ten.

As an Ohio State fan, you have to hope that Meyer is able to trump the Tressel/Hoke strategy. That seems like a very reasonable hope at this point based on his track record.

It all will come down to whether the national guys > the guys that Ohio State misses in the state that go to Michigan. There will be plenty of booms and busts in both areas, so it will be interesting to continue tracking the progress.

One additional fear is that the national guys just don't "get" the rivalry and despite having superior talent won't be able to match the intensity of the local kids playing for Michigan similarly to what happened in the 90's. You still have to feel pretty comfortable with Meyer > Cooper when it comes to motivation for The Game, however.
