tOSU Recruiting Discussion

As has been explained numerous times, with some of the tight ends potentially becoming H-backs (Baugh and Heuerman are both prime candidates), you can basically look at it like they are replacing fullbacks Zach Boren and Adam Homan who both graduate after this season.

With an H-Back (aka fullback in the old offense), true tight end (Nick Vannett, Jeff Heuerman) along with a potential flex tight end that can split out wide (Stoneburner, Blake Thomas), I really wouldn't be surprised to see three "tight ends" on the field at the same time.

I would be very surprised if at least two weren't on the field at the same time on a consistent basis.

The numbers make sense when you look at it with that perspective rather than from the Tressel offensive perspective.

Perfect explanation. Greenies. (whatever that is....I assume I can give you some vcash or whatever...will investigate)

Go Bucks......show me some H Back TDs!

Thanks for the explanation on the offense...I think it will help after I see the offense tomorrow...but again thanks!

With us having a class that wont have the full scholarship allotment and guys seeming to commit pretty quickly this early. Would there come a time when the staff tells uncommitted kids not to commit and wait until the end of their senior seasons to reevaluate them? And also see if unheard of guys now make big moves?

I'm interested in hearing some thoughts on where we go from here with OL recruiting in this class. With Lisle in the fold, and Montelus and Lazard having committed elsewhere in the last few days, we now have three OL offers out there by my count: Pocic, whom we seem to be in at least fair shape with, Tunsil, who would seem to be an extreme longshot, and Rodgers, who has said that he wants to visit tOSU.

Will in-state guys like Gall, Meadows, Peterson, and Welsh get closer looks now, or do you think we'll see another round of offers go out to national guys? Maybe we'll know the answer to this question after camp? Will we keep pursuing some of the kids that have committed elsewhere? Will they talk to some of the DT recruits (Munger, et al.) about coming in as OL?

A great class is shaping up, and I am very confident that we will continue to get great recruiting news, but I am just slightly worried about OL recruiting. Last year's OL haul was good to great, but we can't stop there. Interested in hearing opinions beyond the obvious "trust the staff" stuff...thanks.

Think this will be your answer. Offers have seemed to "slow down" for the most part, especially on the OL....I think they want to see what happens at camp and go from there.

I think the thing to keep in mind is that no one has yet played a single down of football for their senior seasons. By next winter, none of us should be surprised if Scout's top OL list is completely different.

I'm hoping UFM's plan is to get the base of the class down now, and to leave OL recruiting for the fall as that will be his primary focus (besides winning games obviously). We've all seen what Coach can do when he's at his most focused, and I'm guessing with the very top, "can't miss" recruits off the board he's going to wait and choose a few of the linemen that pop up between now and February, to direct his energies towards.

They will take 3 most likely and the other two IMO will be Pocic, Latham, or a camper/late bloomer from in state.

This.

The class is half (or over half) full now. So if your not 100% you would accept the commitment over anyone else who came along later then it makes since to take a step back and let camp and senior season go by to make your final choices

Is it too far fetched to believe that we will close with the following guys:

WR: James Quick and one of either Shelton Gibson or Devon Allen
TE: Mike Heuerman
OT: Ethan Pocic
DT: Either Donovan Munger or Maurice Hurst
DE: Joey Bosa
LB: Jaylon Smith (and maybe Kalambayi or Kimbrough, I'm the least sure about these two)
DB: Vonn Bell (who I think we have a great shot at)

to end with a class of 19ish? That would be one hell of a class, and I hope it's not too naive of me to think we reel in the vast majority of these guys.

Edit: Well that was timely!

IMO Gibson, Heuerman and Bosa are good bets. Beyond that Hurst is probably the next most likely. Then the rest. I don't share your confidence with Bell.
