Tiger Woods (Offical Thread)

Tiger just finished the first tournament in 11 years where he didn't have a round that broke par.

I think he's done. I think Jack's record is safe.

His personal life is in a shambles. The embarrassment of what he has done is much to bear. Maybe he doesn't break the record but his play will recover in time.

Not a chance. He is down but definitely not out. Wont bother me either way, but once he gets his head back he will be storming.

His third round in the open was not a fluke.

At least I've been able to enjoy watching golf again, if only for a while.

It had gotten very old seeing tournaments on Sunday, as soon as Cheetah made his first birdie of the day, watching anybody above him on the leaderboard as their favorite body part dropped off.

Competition adds spice to sports. Foregone conclusions, not so much.

FOXNews.com - Elin Nordegren Gets $750M, Custody of Kids in Exchange for Silence in Tiger Woods Divorce

As reported by The Sun the value is around $750 mil and Tiger cannot have a "single" female in the kid's presence. Wow!!! Good for her.....

Tiger Woods is banned from letting girlfriends near his kids in a divorce deal netting his ex a record $750 million settlement, The Sun reported Wednesday.
The golfer agreed to keep single women away from daughter Sam, three, and son Charlie, one.
He can bring a new flame into their lives only if he marries her. In return, former wife Elin Nordegren ,30, gets the biggest payout ever seen in a celebrity divorce.
But she can never publicly speak out over his alleged flings with socialite Rachel Uchitel, reality star Jaimee Grubbs, porn queen Joslyn James and up to 17 others.

Tiger Woods' divorce settlement much less than the $750,000 reported Wednesday.

Tiger Wood?s Ex Takes $100 million in Divorce Settlement

Tiger Woods is near to closing a $100 million divorce settlement with his separated wife, Elin Nordegren. Once known as the world?s best golfer, Woods had his almost perfect world fall apart after his wife discovered him engaging on a series of extramarital affairs. TMZ reports that the settlement is far higher than what the couple had formerly approved of on their prenuptial agreement. The reason stated was since Woods felt the need to secure her silence to save further embarrassment and damage to his career. If the $100 million deal is true then it would be one of the 10 most expensive celebrity divorces of all time.

I don't know yet...At this point in their careers Tiger still has a lead on Jack by one major. From Tiger's first major win ('97 Masters) through this year's US Open he has 14 majors. Jack during the same 53 major span ('62 US Open though '75 British) had 13 majors. It is important to note that if Tiger doesn't triumph at St. Andrews in two weeks the two will be tied with 14 a piece as Jack won his 14th major at the '75 PGA. Tiger does have father time on his side as he is a little younger (I think a year) than Jack in his stage of his career.
I do believe that Jack's overall competition was tougher than Tiger's and case in point I will submit the names all golfers who have won at least three majors beginning within the same period (53 majors). For example, Tom Watson won the first of his majors during one of Jack's 13 wins during 62-75, he ended up with eight while almost adding #9 last year at the British. Each of these guys are either within or tied for the top 27 major wins of all-time.
Jack Nicklaus' contemporaries are/were: Gary Player, Arnold Palmer, Lee Trevino, Peter Thompson, Raymond Floyd, Billy Casper, Hale Irwin and Julius Boros for a total of eight.
Tiger's list Phil Mickelson, Vijah Singh, Ernie Els, Payne Stewart, and Padraig Harrington for a total of five. Perhaps with the younger players out there Tiger's list will grow and we really won't know until Tiger's career is complete.
At this point each man's major career totals by tourney...

Tiger
Masters 4
US Open 3
British 3
PGA 4

Jack
Masters 5
US Open 3
British 2
PGA 3

Jack went on to add five more majors from the '75 PGA to '86 Masters winning: One Masters, One US Open, One British Open and two PGA's.....

You must also consider that while Jack was a great golfer, he was never the physical specimen Tiger is. Jack's body was not his friend near the end of his career.

If Tiger stays fit he could be much more competitive in his 40s than was Nicklaus (who won only one major after turning 40).

Even if he loses two years over this current fiasco he has plenty of time to regain his form - and there is zero reason to believe he will not do so.

Unless, of course, TMZ starts printing articles about a certain Canadian doctor.

Maybe not, but my understanding was his fitness was head and shoulders above many of his contemporaries at the time. Have to remember Tiger hasn't exactly been devoid of injuries either. I think the jury is still out as to wheat will happen with Tiger...he could win no more majors, he could win 6.

Earlier this week Akron Beacon Journal related something to the effect that Tiger was being question about his seeing a Canadian doctor who pretty much handed out steroids. Check out film of Tiger during his younger years, he was a skinny kid. In less than a year he was built like a linebacker. Gary Player may have been hinting around about this.

Yeah those reports have been circling since Christmas (and privately much longer)

So he has to switch to banging married chicks?

No, multiples.

Actually he won three after he turned 40.

Sloppy on my part - those first two were when he was 41.

I don't want to sound like I think he is a lock to go crazy in the near future, but anyone who dismisses him as finished is being very premature. He is only a bit older than Michelson when he won his first major and Phil is arguably in his prime right now.
