The Walking Dead (Official Thread)

That mid-season finale SUCKED. In every way I could have possibly imagined. They spent the last 3 episodes supposedly building up to this conflict at the hospital and THAT is what we got? I could tell about halfway through it was going to suck ass because they had already wasted half a show without getting to what should be the good part. Just the tip of the iceberg of shit that sucked:

1. What was the point of the so-called "good" cop continuing to run when he saw Rick had him? Dude was caught. It just seemed like the writers needed some kind of payoff after having the cop be the "cliffhanger" of last episode.

2. The priest shit with the church. Should have done that a while ago. Not this episode.

3. Sasha and Tyrese. Any conversation they have is a colossal waste of time. Those are "I'm going to the bathroom, don't bother pausing" scenes.

4. Why in the actual fuck would you do the exchange INSIDE the hospital? You have the two cops. You have all the leverage. You have a large parking garage with sharpshooters. DO IT THERE. Why go up into an enclosed area where the cops have complete control and shit can go wrong?

5. Beth's death. So fucking dumb. For a multitude of reasons, not in the least of which is that the last episodes have been dedicated to saving her. Why even bother with the hospital storyline if you're just going to kill her in the dumbest way possible anyway?

6. Maggie. No, seriously, bitch... you haven't mentioned your sister the entire season but let's get emotional about it now.

Fuck that episode. Fuck it up its stupid fucking ass.

The point of the good cop running was to show how Rick is so far gone now.
So does Rick become the season 6 antagonist? Or a group Civil War? I can't see them having the balls or writing ability to pull that off, but it would sure as hell be more interesting that the hospital crap. I see a good deal more of the good cop, bad cop thing going forward...but unless the "good guys" have the right answer from time to time, that will be pointless after a while. Every situation can't end up being "We should have wasted the fuckers".

Also...he's that far gone, but then after Beth gets wasted he just turns around and walks out? Gone Rick would have Rick-rolled that entire battalion of cops, on the spot, no questions asked, before the supposed "good girl" in the outfit talks him down. If he was that far gone, he would have laid waste to them before she ever had a chance.

This^ I was sure Rick was gonna go HAM with his .44, only to not happen, agreed, last nights finale was very so-so at best, feels like after the 2nd or 3rd episode this was a wasted (half) season.

it was very interesting they had Darrell take out the cop.... Normally thats Rick's job to take the tough shot (ie Sophia)...

Well I wasn't thrilled with the finale. I don't think that demonstrated Rick being too far gone...honestly, I think it was to show he will still listen to outside input and take every situation case by case. If the idea was to show him too far gone, he would have told the group to screw off on the hostage exchange and come in guns blazing. He would not have let Noah go and he would've wasted everyone in that group. He also would not have offered to take the hospital people into the group.

But aside from the Rick-roll, I thought the episode sucked. The final scene was anti-climatic as hell...I felt zero tension and everyone knew the Beth scissor was coming. Gun shot through the head from the hip almost instantly? GTFO. Darryl killing the cop made sense after building up their relationship all of last season...to me that was the more emotional to see Darryl's reaction. He searches for Sophia for so long only to see her dead. He finds his brother only to have him dead as a zombie shortly after. Now he finds Beth alive after a seemingly successful exchange. Everyone has had it rough but Darryl really had a ton of losses after he opened himself up.

I still think Father Gabriel is going to be a very interesting character and I am curious to see where they go with him. There are still some interesting arcs out there, namely Morgan catching up with the group. But the prison added nothing to the show and was a waste of episodes.

Not their best mid season finale, for sure. It was painfully obvious that Beth was going to be the one getting the axe in this one, no surprises there. Sasha probably deserved to get offed too by letting her guard down against the cop, should have gone straight through that window, but she lived to see another day. While they made Beth a better character the last season or so, her death wasn't quite as memorable as say...her father. I think they tried to make me care about her loss, but I was barely invested in her outcome. The whole hospital arc just felt weak, and it's probably because it was an original story and not from the comics.

Up to this point I think every mid season finale or season finale has been tied into the comics in some way (Although in the comics the Governor only attacked the prison once). This was the first big episode that was original, and it felt somewhat lukewarm. Too much dialog, very little fighting, I think the best part may have been the opening with Rick running down the cop and I guess the finish. The only death I can recall in the middle was the lone zombie that was sniped. Way too much dialogue, not enough action.

[EDIT] Ok, I forgot about the cop that was pushed down the elevator shaft, but he had all of one scene really in the season and that's where he pushed the old man down. It didn't really do anything to make me like Dawn as a character (good or bad) any more than before. I think a better ending to the episode would have had Beth go to slap Dawn in revenge before they leave the hospital, and Dawn snaps and puts a bullet in Beth's head afterwards. Daryl retaliates as expected...but maybe Dawn doesn't die. I think that would have been more interesting. Also wanted to say excellent points, RB07OSU.

Darrell was closest to Beth of anyone that had a gun. I'm guessing that's why they had him do it. You know Maggie would have emptied a clip into all the cops if she had been there.

I found the whole first half of the season too rushed. Terminus was done in one episode, then they turned into the hunters for a few episodes, and after that the season finished with a few episodes at the hospital. I think they could have stretched Terminus and the hunters for the first half of the season and then focused on the hospital in the second half. I never really feared any of the badies this year like the Governor the past couple seasons. Maybe they felt that if they kept any bad guys around for more than a few episodes they would have had to kill more than Bob and Beth.

I was actually thinking Beth was going take Noah's place and stay at the hospital to make sure everyone got out safe. Once she was alone with Dawn she would stab her in the neck with the scissors and try to escape.

Can you imagine if they had kept the Hunters a few more episodes and they had a 3-way showdown with Rick's group and the cops at the Hospital? Now that could have been an epic MSF.

I was surprised they killed off the hunters so fast. That was a great storyline............
Clearly the abuse that Beth took from Dawn pushed her over the edge. Darrell just doesn't give much thought in a situation like that. he just reacts.
Although Rick has gone to the edge more than once and is explosive and coldblooded at times.
