The Walking Dead (Official Thread)

As an aside, we are of the understanding that this show is a primetime drama with a zombie apocalypse theme, right? Not a show about surviving the zombie apocalypse. Character driven shows, which AMC does very well, are rarely "about" their setting. Breaking Bad wasn't about drug dealers, Mad Men isn't about advertising, etc...

With that, the death of Beth's character, what we see of Maggie's reaction, Kirkman confirming we'll be seeing a gay character soon (as well as his suggestion that the show's theme is changing) all lead to exactly where anyone who has read through the comics suspects it's going to go. It's pretty obvious and it's pretty exciting. After the prison, even in the comics, there wasn't a very compelling story arc until
the group reaches Alexandria
and that whole story-line breathed a HUGE breath of fresh air into the characters and can do the same with the show, especially with Kirkman taking a larger role in telling the story and the show-runner staying more true to the comics.

Most pointless part?!

That whole story arc in the comics was meant to allow the world to "grow up" quite a bit. It's about the transition from surviving to living. The sub-themes and symbolism were the meat,
the war with the saviors was just the vehicle
.

You also have to realize that even if they take the show where many suspect it's heading the fact that we're dealing with an ENTIRELY different set of characters developed in an entirely different way is going to offer a very different experience.

This thread is hilarious though, it really is a bunch of people that seem to hate the show arguing about how [Mark May]ty it is.

I tell you what, though. I had given up on the show after the [Mark May]fest that was the end of S3. When they hired new writers it was obvious they had to tie up loose ends and transition the story to where they could write fresh, so I gave them the benefit of the doubt. S4 made that transition well. Now we're looking at a very respectable opening to S5 in a time during the comic's story that is very very dull as is, so I'll withhold judgement until they've finished out this season. Had I not played both of the Telltale Games "The Walking Dead" games and read the entirety of the comics series I would give absolutely zero [Mark May]s about the show anymore. Immersing yourself in Kirkman's world makes the show a lot more enjoyable.

If you can't immerse yourself in the show alone and have it be enjoyable, it's a shitshow.

is there a way to get the graphic novel without getting like 100 comic books?

I don't know if they're still up, but you could often find a number of the comics uploaded to Youtube. It's a strange format for comics, for sure, but it's free. I've seen comics posted on https://www.scribd.com (That's how I got up to speed) as well for free, usually just the older ones though, current ones get pulled fast. Finally, when in doubt, you can always try your hand at finding a torrent. People seem to get the new releases uploaded pretty quick.

Scribe i think had them all listed.
There was a large sweep recently and most of them were removed. It's INFINITELY easier to torrent them if you want to go the digital route.

I have them all digitally and use ComicRack as a reader.

If you'd like I could package that all up and upload it somewhere for you.

That's all greek to me, to be honest. If it's a pain then don't worry about it, but you would have to explain what I need to do on my end. Thanks
