The Walking Dead (Official Thread)

Can you imagine if they had kept the Hunters a few more episodes and they had a 3-way showdown with Rick's group and the cops at the Hospital? Now that could have been an epic MSF.

What they should have done was have Rick's group set up the Hunters to interact with the cops. Two groups of antagonists going after each other and they can watch the carnage.

I thought the whole hospital thing was stupid and contrived. "Hmm, how can we manage to bring the two storylines together?" "Hey, just spit-balling, but how'bout we have Darryl and Carol just happen to see some car in the middle of nowhere and then follow it what, if you care the least bit about geography, at least forty miles only to run out of gas in a large city but, not to worry, we'll have them break into a ten (at most) story building surrounded by taller buildings and just happen to look out the one window that actually allows them to see the people they were following and then we'll have them just happen to run into the one guy who just escaped from the hospital who could be anywhere in the whole fcuking city as there are hundreds of floors in over a hundred buildings within easy walking distance of the hospital and then have Carol get hit by a car and taken to the same hospital so that Darryl and Noah can just blast back down to wherever the fcuk the others are, despite the fact that we spent the whole first season explaining how hopelessly congested the highways were and it's at least forty miles and then maybe they can all come back to Atlanta, set up nearby and capture some cops so they can swap them out for Carol and get Beth killed." "So, explain to me again why people actually watch this shi..., I mean, show."

Pretty much everyone agrees...completely killing off the hunters early, as anticipated, made the rest of the season suck. The hospital was a waste. The actual death of Beth made nobody care (save maybe Darryl's reaction). Really, killing off the hunters bummed me the most...I thought they were by far the most interesting plot twist to the show so far.

It makes me wonder if, although I've only breezed the comic wiki link, they're trying to get to other plots but for some reason feel like they've got to hit these notes first. I'd rather they actually play the notes or delete them in favor of other plot lines.

They have tried to stretch out really small parts of the comics and condense longer parts, they have been weird. I think I know where they are going next, but that means next season will be Negan, the most pointless part of the graphic novels. Ugh, they are catching up quick, 12 comics a year, not a lot happens, will be interesting to see where they go once they have bypassed the story.

Seemed like they found some sort of walled off city or something from the preview. I thought I saw them trying to close some sort of giant steel door. Anyone else catch that?

With that, the death of Beth's character, what we see of Maggie's reaction, Kirkman confirming we'll be seeing a gay character soon (as well as his suggestion that the show's theme is changing) all lead to exactly where anyone who has read through the comics suspects it's going to go. It's pretty obvious and it's pretty exciting. After the prison, even in the comics, there wasn't a very compelling story arc until
the group reaches Alexandria
and that whole story-line breathed a HUGE breath of fresh air into the characters and can do the same with the show, especially with Kirkman taking a larger role in telling the story and the show-runner staying more true to the comics.

Most pointless part?!

That whole story arc in the comics was meant to allow the world to "grow up" quite a bit. It's about the transition from surviving to living. The sub-themes and symbolism were the meat,
the war with the saviors was just the vehicle
.

You also have to realize that even if they take the show where many suspect it's heading the fact that we're dealing with an ENTIRELY different set of characters developed in an entirely different way is going to offer a very different experience.

This thread is hilarious though, it really is a bunch of people that seem to hate the show arguing about how shitty it is.

I tell you what, though. I had given up on the show after the shitfest that was the end of S3. When they hired new writers it was obvious they had to tie up loose ends and transition the story to where they could write fresh, so I gave them the benefit of the doubt. S4 made that transition well. Now we're looking at a very respectable opening to S5 in a time during the comic's story that is very very dull as is, so I'll withhold judgement until they've finished out this season. Had I not played both of the Telltale Games "The Walking Dead" games and read the entirety of the comics series I would give absolutely zero shits about the show anymore. Immersing yourself in Kirkman's world makes the show a lot more enjoyable.

I wonder what the spinoff show is going to be like.
If it's like most spinoffs, it won't last long. I hope they don't oversaturate, one of the things that makes the show enjoyable in good weeks and tolerable in bad ones is the fact that there are a limited number of episodes...if they start making TWD like WWE programming, it will get old fast.
