The Walking Dead (Official Thread)

It's like neutering a dog. Sure, some of them may still hump other dogs afterwards, but most of them lose all interest one way or another.
You're trying too hard. I'd bet the fucking writers couldn't give you a reason half as believable. Later on we'll see a walker with no mouth or arms still trying to eat someone and there will be no explanation.
Try this one. How is it that Michonne, despite having pet walkers, still needed to wear a cloak with walker guts all over it to keep from getting killed, until now, anyway. Just like Rick and Glen had to axe that zombie and wear its bowels to walk amongst them in Atlanta. Hell, a light rain came along and the walkers could smell them despite them wearing six yards of poop shute. The horde sniffed out Sophia hiding under a car on the highway. But now Michonne can take a walk with sixty walkers without so much as a second glance because she has two walkers on a leash.

I assumed it had something to do with camo. Cut the jaws and arms so they can't attack and lose interest. Zombies being of a horde mentality will see other zombies attacking and join in the fray. If the zombies you are leading around aren't attacking you, other zombies won't notice either?

So all this time people been getting attacked and killed and all Michonne had to do was give all of her friends a pet and they could have been napping in hammocks in the woods while firing guns into the air to wake each other up? Michonne is a bitch.

That's another thing. If they have lost their desire to eat people, why the fuck are they following her around? And if the answer is because, then why the leash?

Shit is absurd.

The zombies are the MOST believable part of the entire shitty production.

they aren't following her, she's pulling them.

But yeah, why they didn't just de-arm/jaw 50 Walkers and tie them to the fence around the prison is beyond me. Or just spend a day at the fence stabbing all the Walkers through it with her sword.

But I guess you have watch the show with some suspension of belief. It is a show about zombies after all.

The short answer, which became obvious a couple seasons ago: They just don't care. Wylie Coyote's string of non-lethal mishaps with Acme's products are more plausible than much of the script "writing" on that show. Didn't watch this week-end, am probably dumping cable altogether, so not likely to see any more episodes. If someone enjoys the show, that's fine. In my dotage, my disbelief is a lot less flexible than it used to be--it only stretches so far before it breaks altogether.

The inconsistency in the behavior of the walkers (Writers) is probably why it's hard to believe what they're selling. In a show like this, writers expect the viewer to buy into the scenario/world that they're creating for you, which is perfectly fine. On the other hand, it makes it difficult for the viewer to accept what the writers are feeding you when they keep changing the rules.

I miss the early days of them covering themself in zombie guts and going to the CDC - the first season or so had a completely different feel. It's unrealistic to expect that grittiness to stay there though. I'm hopeful this new spin off show next year will be a good start to getting back there.

Except this time, and this is one other thing I noticed that basically says they don't give a fuck anymore, is that she pulled them some, but other times when she was walking with the horde, she was walking them like a dog with them out front. It's like not only did they change the rules of engagement but they also changed the rules of how they behave completely and how she moved them along and what the effect was. Basically the writers are saying "Fuck you, you are all watching now, we can do what we want." It's no wonder Darabront or whatever his name is bailed after the first season or two.

It wasn't a voluntary bailing--more like a walking the plank. Given that Darabont, who wrote the scripts for both Shawshank and Green Mile, was unceremoniously canned early in production of the 2nd season, that might explain the decline in script quality.

Back then, I remember reading that he wanted to maintain the quality of the show, and AMC (despite having an uber profitable mega hit on their hands) wanted to cut back expenditures and play it cheap. Then, they just fired him abruptly.

Not satisfied with that insult, AMC has apparently decided to add the injury of ripping him off for any profits from the show, so now he's suing:

Considering the "alleged" corrupt practices AMC is engaging in to avoid paying Darabont, it's none too shocking that they wouldn't give a crap about a little thing like artistic integrity. As others mentioned above, I have no problem with created worlds--my preference is fantasy/scifi. But once you build one, at least have the common courtesy to honor the natural laws of the world you've created. I hate shows that can't remember their own rules, and violate them like a giant FU to their loyal viewers.

I didn't even notice the walking in front.........I see your point

The writers actually did try to cover this loophole in Season 3. When the Guv brought the two walkers Michonne had to Milton, he ran a study on them and found that after you take away their ability to feed, they become "docile." Essentially if they lose ability to attack, they can just be led around...not surprising considering they have less brain power than most animals that are capable of being led. Not saying it's plausible (and let's get real, it is a show about fucking zombies as Mike said), just saying they did briefly try to cover that.

Just to be clear, I quoted you in reference to everyone's questions on this. You are quite right.

As to the actual episode, I'm not sure how I feel. I love that they finally explained Michonne's background but I just didn't like the placement of the episode. And to the extent that they didn't fully explain her story, that is why this episode wasn't the series finally. They will explain it. And Carl's teenage angst is pretty accurate I suppose, I just don't like teenage angst in general. Overall, I like the father-son dynamic.

What I really don't like is how somehow an ass kicking induces a 48 hour hangover-like coma. AMC did the same thing in Breaking Bad when Walt slept for days after having his ass kicked. I'm just not convinced Rick was beaten so bad that he would be unresponsive for that long.
