The Rematch/No Rematch Thread

MichiganForever - We played in Ann Arbor last year with the same outcome. Quit making excuses. Furthermore, we will gloat all we want, thank you very much. Here's a word of caution for you: Don't whine. Don't make excuses. And don't come on our board telling us what we should do.

Have a good day!

barely edged out Michigan.

I am sooooo tired of hearing this.

Since the first football game was played the standard for victory has been a single point. That is the standard Jim Tressel has always played to. It got him an NC in 2002.

If he had known in advance that the standard was different this past Saturday he might have taken a different approach. On Michigan's last drive - where all we really needed was time to come off the clock - perhaps we would have been more aggresive on D. If he knew that the new standard was 10 perhaps he would have done more than run off tackle the last 2:30 or so.

This game did not end on a missed FG or a pass into the end zone. Michigan trailed by 11 with less than 3 minutes to go. I know of a team who can't say that about Ball St. But they claimed a win.

And another thing -

Does anyone remember the last time a team that did not win its conference played in the Championship game and how exciting that was?

Miami 37
Nebraska 14

I don't want a rematch in the NC game.

But I must say I wouldn't mind watcing these 2 OSU/Michigan teams go at it a few more times. These are 2 pretty good teams and it was fun to watch them. Not saying I want to watch them in the NC, just that it'd be fun to just line these 2 teams up 10 times and enjoy the show.

Obviously OSU would win 10 times, but the fun factor would still be high! Go Bucks!

Last Year

Yes it's true OSU beat Michigan in their own house last year, but that was a different team. You can't compare the 7-5 Michigan team of 2005 to the 11-1 Michigan team of 2006. Mario Manningham had just gotten his first bones for catching the winning touchdown against Penn State. Mike Hart was injured for most of the season, and Michigan's defense was nowhere near as talented last year as they were this year. Can you imagine Michigan's defense of '05 going up against Ohio State's offense of '06? OSU would've crushed Michigan, without contest.
So, no excuses here. We'll see what happens next year or possibly in Glendale. Regardless, Ohio State still proved they were the better team this season. As far as bragging goes, brag all you want. You won the game, thus you deserve to brag. Believe you me that Michigan fans would do the same if they had come out the winner.

And just a few stats for the "damn was that close" crowd:

OSU had 41% more first downs.
44% more rushing yards.
18% more pasing yards
27% more total yards.
18% more yards per play.
and our 3rd down conversion percentage was 24% higher.

Whatever the BCS rolls out I can live with. But why any sane OSU fan would actually WANT a rematch just because some Michigan players were whining is beyond me.

Go Trojans. Go Gators.

And maybe even the Razorbacks.

and BTW - is it really MichiganForever or should it be "MichiganItSeemsLikeForever"

First I'd like to say to all the Buckeye fans, congratulations on your well deserved win. The hardest part about the end result is knowing that I will hear nothing but gloating from Ohio State fans. This will be the third year in a row I have had to endure an Ohio State victory over Michigan, and each loss stings more than the previous one.
I would also like to say Michigan shouldn't play OSU again in the National Championship purely on the basis that if you don't win your conference you shouldn't be given a chance to play in the National Championship. USC appears right now to be a deserving opponent if they can beat Notre Dame with some style points.
But I just want to remind all you Bucks fans that you won't be on top of Michigan forever. These are your glory years. We had our glory during the Coop era and soon, we'll be back on top again. Lloyd Carr's record against Jim Tressel is soon becoming Cooper-like at 1-5.
As far as the game went, Ohio State played at home and barely edged out Michigan. If the game was played in Ann Arbor, I think the result might've been different. Neither of the opposing defenses were impressive at all. Crable also made a costly mistake that would've stifled OSU's offense and given Michigan an opportunity to win the game. But those are the breaks. In the end, OSU made more opportunities for themselves than Michigan did. So congratulations.

Thank you for the congrats. Mich played well.
Yes it is our turn and we love it.
You sound like Hart. If I remember we played you in Ann Arbor last year and won. so what would be diff. Hart said if we played again he guarenteed it would be different. but He has had 3 chances now.
Yes we did do better than you did and thanks again. I hope you win your bowl game unless of course.......

Pat Forde aptly summarized the reasons that IMO scUM has absolutely no argument that it should face us in the NC game:

http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/colum...pat&id=2667714

The Wolverines played with great heart and impressive offensive execution in a feral road setting -- but they were inferior to the Buckeyes.

The final score is closer than the game played out. The Buckeyes had 106 more yards of total offense and gift-wrapped 10 Wolverines points with a botched center snap and a tipped-ball interception deep in their own territory. They were a minus-three in the turnover department -- two of them utterly unforced -- but never really had to sweat in the final 15 minutes.

Michigan only led for 6 minutes and 29 seconds Saturday, all in the first quarter. It only had a single fourth-quarter possession with a chance to tie or take the lead. The Wolverines went three-and-out on that possession, and Ohio State promptly drove 83 yards for a 42-31 lead. School was out at that point.
*************

OK, back to my two cents.
I'm sick and tired of hearing people say that scUM should get a rematch because "they only lost by three." Before the game, it was said that if the game was neck and neck with OSU kicking a field goal to win it by three at the end, there should be a rematch. No argument here. But that's not what happened. Instead, we had the game wrapped up when Robiskie scored with five minutes to go. scUM needed a TD when our defense was playing very soft just to make the score look respectable. I am shocked that some (Herbie included) would have them retain their #2 ranking. We clearly showed that we were the superior team. There's nothing left for a rematch to settle.

Spiels hit it on the head for me while I was driving home this afternoon...

Michigan had their shot and lost. If USC wins out, they deserve the same chance.
he also said that Troy Smith said they should set up a 1-800 number and have people vote on who they want to see Ohio State beat in the NC game. :paranoid:

That game sucked, but the last time a team didn't win their conference and played in the Championsship game was Oklahoma against LSU, after the Sooners got blasted by Kansas State 35-7 in the 2003 Big 12 CCG.

Just thought I would toss you a change up so you could blast it out of the park. :)
