The Rematch/No Rematch Thread

Certain ungrateful Michigan losers are already calling for a rematch. I don't remember us calling for a rematch after the 68, 95, 96 games. Some lose gracefully and some don't. Michigan doesn't deserve to get beat again and that honor ought to go to some other team.

Problems with a rematch:

1. It makes the phrase "prove it on the field" meaningless. We just did that.

2. It completely discounts this marvelous game. It says "That was nice, now let's play again and this one will count".

3. It opens the possibility that OSU could be Big Ten champ and Michigan National Champ. That is just silly.

IMO, scUM is the second best team in the country, and third really isn't that close behind them. However, they don't deserve another shot at tOSU. They didn't prove today that they were the second best team in the country. They proved today that they could play their best game and lose to an Ohio State team that made uncharacteristic mistakes and failed to force mistakes by the opponent. Mike Hart can talk all he wants, but this Ohio State team is special. They may not have proved it completely today, but the only thing Ohio State needed to prove was that they are better than Michigan. They did. Next...

Unfortunately, it seems that none of the other NC "contenders" really want to remain in contention. There is still a lot of football to play, and it may end up that scUM is the only major 1-loss team when the dust finally settles. God, I hope it doesn't end up that way though - for all the reasons that have already been stated.

Not only that but we had to also beat Bo today...SCum had their shot at the NC and came up short, now it's somebody elses turn...WHO?...USC (losing) Rutgers (losing) Notre Lame (SCum beat them)...

Michigan's definitely #2 but I don't want to play them again, either. This is a gatekeeper game - part of the fire comes from being able to knock the other team out of NC contention. Though I imagine there are financial ramifications the Big Ten wouldn't mind at all.

Maybe we can line up the #3-6 teams, one per quarter, and pick 'em off one at a time. In the unlikely event that they manage to beat us, let them have a four-way split.

Your comparison makes no sense. In those years there were other undefeated teams. This year there are none.

scUM has every right for a rematch if Florida, Arkansas, USC have 2 losses.

NO more silly than Cincinnati being AFC North champs and Pittsburgh being Super Bowl champs.

The fact that this game is a classic has nothing to do with whether there should be a rematch or not.

Speaking of financial ramifications, how about tOSU v. scUm in the title game, and a one-loss Wisconsin in the Rose Bowl?

Florida plays at FSU, and Arkansas hosts LSU next week. If both win, then UM should be out of NC contention. I hope that happens.

Not possible. A conference can only have two representatives in the BCS.
I had a feeling there might be some such clause. How about Wisconsin finishes #5 in the BCS, but because of tOSU and scUM, they go to the capital one bowl. Then we watch Boise State play Notre Lame in the worst BCS bowl game ever.
BCS ROOOOOOLS:bonk:
